Listened to talk sport earlier and they were on about spurs boss poch and the link with Chelsea job once conte goes. Poch says levy needs to spend big to improve spurs further but what I thought was interesing is that spurs (ok a different league to us) but their wages are bonus incentive which make the players earning more than a steady wage would if successful. Seems to me that even the top end teams use this model nowadays and can understand why R&R have gone down that route. The other difference I see is obviously the our players basic wage is exactly that that basic where spurs players are on a good crack anyway.

Spurs - Wage bonus incentive, won't break wage structure for better players
Man City - Pay higher wages to attract better players and also offer bonuses

    Spurs - 4th
    Man City - Title

    Which method works the best?

I think the Spurs squads " basic " wage will be a lot larger than most .

I can see the sense behind bonus enhanced salary schemes.

At our level, I can see a couple of problems. I think a guaranteed income of x is more attractive than 0.6x, with the possibility of getting 1.3x if certain conditions are met. Especially if things happen outside your own sphere on influence to prevent you earning 1.3x e.g. other players not performing, lesser players being brought in than those that were in the team, not recruiting effectively, playing centre halves up front, random footballers appearing at training etc.

While money can be a motivator, I know from personal experience what an absolute fecking ballache the allocation of bonuses can be and how much of a distraction they can cause.

    Playing centre halves up front?

Utterly stupid. Who does that these days?

Sunderland had a massive wage bill and where did that end up? I take your point though.

Wait till their new home has been up and running a while and they'll be spunking money around like there is no tomorrow.

Burnley pay lower wages and won't break wage structure - 7th and Europe
Everton - pay big wages and offer bonuses - 8th and no Europe and were in a relegation fight for half of the season

Shrewsbury - lower pay more bonuses - 3rd and wembley play off final
Bury - higher pay, long contracts and bonuses - rock bottom of the league

You can get examples to back up most methods in football. Point is there is no guaranteed one solution to winning in football, it's all about finding the right method for you.

Also we hate this head coach method as fans, however Fulham play some of the best football in the chamionship with academy players mixed in with good pros, manager signs no players and knows nothing about it. 90 minutes away from the prem

Take their opponents on the other hand villa. Bruce makes most of signings with big fees and big wages. Also 90 minutes away from the prem.

    Agree with you completely.

There's so many different ways to be successful. I wish posters wouldn't talk like there's only a single way to run a football team, it's all just personal preference.
