Barnsley Chairman on George Miller

Top 10 league 1 player Christ almighty.

They've clearly made that assumption on the stat he mentioned (18 goals in 41 starts), but clearly haven't watched him a lot with us this season. Plenty of effort and desire, nowt much else.

 

You want the truth??

You brought Miller because you're hedging your bets.

You're chairman isn't confident of you going up and didn't back your pomotion bid.

If you don't go up they will be a fire sale at Barnsley with your top players going.

 

Sounds like your chairman really knows soccer. Interestingly he said the other signing was the one the coach wanted. I'm guessing Miller is the chairmans choice. Makes more sense now.

 

Why mention how many goals he has compared to starts? It completely skews the goal ratio as it adds on goals he scores as a substitute but doesn't add on the actual appearance.

18 in 41 sounds very good, 18 in 82 .... not so much.

Giving out a goals per minute stat would have been much more open and honest with the Barnsley fans.

 

He’s young and could still improve to become a quality player. He has the work rate and attitude which is half the battle. From what I’ve seen, he doesn’t look ready for the Championship playing for a team fighting at the wrong end (which Barnsley would be if they go up).

In League 1 he’s decent and I imagine he could score more goals playing for a better team but he just doesn’t look like he has that killer instinct in front of goal. Seems more interested in running the channels, hassling defenders etc rather than really busting a gut to get in the box and score goals. Maybe that’s just our tactics though.

 

Good luck to the lad, he seems likeable and always puts in a shift. But he is nowhere near a decent league one player, never mind a championship player. Attitude and effort only get you so far, look at Hanson. If he doesn't improve his basic skillset then he cannot go forward.

 

£200k is actual lol.

 

Well I think he see's something in GM that I haven't yet. Pacy lad and closes down quickly but easily knocked off the ball.

The jury is definitely out as to whether he is good enough for the Championship.

 

Just shows what a great deal Julian Rhodes got for Bradford City.

Paul Conway makes a very good case out for Barnsley going forward, love his American accent not sure if I'd heard it with a German accent it would have sounded as good .

 

Not only that, but you sort of have to wonder why a 'top ten league one player' is only starting half the games he's played in?

 

Remember Miller is still playing for us for rest of the season.If we say it as we think he may not bother!

 

Just ask yourself why Middlesborough didn't want him.

Middlesbrough's strikers cost:

Britt Assombalonga = £15m
Jordan Hugill = £10m (on loan)
Ashley Fletcher = £6.5m
Rudy Gestede = £6m

I imagine that would explain why they don't want or need a guy who is presently worth £200k.

However, should Barnsley get promoted, Miller probably only needs a handful of goals to be worth in excess of £1m at that level.

 

200k seems a ridiculous amount, then again I was amazed when Swansea took McBurnie and look how that has turned out. It is a funny game, football.

 

Probably because hes as far away from a Tony Pulis type of striker that you can get. Boro fans I know were excited about him but they know that Pulis would never play him in a million years.

To be fair to Miller, he's playing in a team currently where the goals come from midfield. I think he has potential to do well and have a good career. £200k might seem like a lot now but if he does find some form, as @JonButterfield says, Barnsley will certainly get a return on that.

 

It depends how you define decent. I would imagine if he played for Barnsley this season he would get 10-15 goals. Which I would consider decent for a 21 year old striker in L1. Playing for us is a little different given our predicament and his lack of game time due to Doyle being the main man.

 

I define decent by what i see before my very eyes. His core skills are bang average for a league 1 footballer. I've seen on various occasions this season where he couldn't even master the basics of ball control.

 

Miller gets worse every time I see him. Somebody needs to tell the Barnsley chairman that Middlesbrough have robbed him.
