Match Thread Away V Cheltenham Saturday 20th February @ 3.00pm

It seems to happen when we score. We just sit back instead of trying to win the ball, get on the front foot and score again. Happened every match we've been in the lead.

 

Enjoyed that we've got Cheltenham well and truly rattled.

 

Nah, he's just being a shit house. Its good to see.

 

Started very well, then felt like we stopped playing when we scored not for the first time. Thankfully Cheltenham are constantly playing like it’s the 93rd minute, very little composure. Hopefully the very obvious wind favours us second half and we improve, as I think we need to if we are to hold on.

 

Be good for Rowes shooting if he comes on

 

When you are against the wind with the other side dangerous with set pieces i expect the creating zip is not too different from what they were told to do in the first half. I.e keep it tight

 

Decent half, Cook not done much apart from his goal but can’t complain. Watt looks a little shaky out there and Evans I think has played quite well. Paudie having a real battle out there.

We definitely need to get Rowe on and test their keeper more.

 

Be good for Rowes shooting if he comes on

 

Great scoreline at half time but a scrappy game impregnated by whistle happy referee.
Ball needs to stick more and more runs between the lines.

 

I'd have him having a pop anywhere inside 40 yards

 

I think we'll benefit from the wind second half.

 

Will be a different game second half. They will get a rollicking. Hope Rowe comes on for Cook.

Also have Crankshaw to run at them late on.

Solid first half performance from the 'in form' team in the league.

It will be much harder for Tozer to get his throw ins into the box against the stiff wind.

Callum Cooke the City MOTM so far and AOC having a good game also.

 

Interestingly, the home commentary are lauding how we're winning the midfield battle, managing the conditions better and how we're better in possession

 

We need to get the likes of Vernam on the ball more, quite first half.

 

One nil up, in control (but not dominating), Second half to come with a bottle of Landlord and a large packet of quavers. This is a good day.

 

Some neat and tidy passing at times but very little penetration into their half, which is a concern. Happy with the scoreline but I would expect more pressure from Cheltenham in the second half so we will need to up our game to see this out.

 

It’s easy to see where their results come from it’s like having continuous corners. Put a man on the touch line in front of him

 

Compact is good in that it makes us harder to run through but it means we’re playing it in very tight areas which invariably breaks down. Would like to see us get Vernam in space to run into

 

always found it was an advantage playing into a wind of this strength. Brought the ball back to you instead of it running away from you. City will need to keep it down and not just belt it upfield.

 

Not much of a spectacle but we're coping better under difficult conditions. Chuffed for Cook, he's a handfull and that goal justifies his selection. Their commentators mentioned that Cheltenham's strongest defender in the air is out injured, so perhaps t&s thought Cook would give them problems in the air.

I'd like to see Rowe on for the last 20 - 25 minutes, he'll always give teams something to worry about.

Been mentioned elsewhere but paudie needs to calm the f**k down! He gets involved in unnecessary incidents and always worry he could do something daft.

If we can win this i might start to think playoffs are are distinct possibility
