Bar Rochdale we have been bloody awful away from VP.
Today, Luton, Gillingham, Accrington, Plymouth we were lucky, Blackpool, Fleetwood.
All under Hopkin. Only Sunderland which we lost and away at Peterborough have we shown real fight and were unlucky.
We need to get some points away from VP as we can't rely on solid home form to save us. Worrying times if we don't get anything at Burton or Wycombe.

But the last five include Peterborough, Plymouth, Sunderland, Rochdale and today.
Your excluding the decent results but they’re all recent.
Today, admittedly poor, but recent form away from home has been ‘ok’. I’d treat today as a blip, a reality check, whatever. Let’s see where we are in 2-3 more games.

This league is poor.As things look at the moment,it may be teams just below half way who may fill the most relegation spots. Our recent form has been as good as we could of hoped for but other teams at the bottom are winning now.Scunny have done what we've done and are pulling away after signing a few players.

If we could just get out of the bottom four and that would give renewed optimism for the cause.

As it stands, our away form is headed for the kinds of numbers we had in those seasons under Parkinson when relegation to non-league was a real worry. Home form helped save us then, and it looks as if that might have to be the case again now. One difference now is that we are just not drawing enough, that is to say, at least rescuing points from losing positions.

We have been excellent when we have a lead, 8-2-0 when leading at halftime and 8-2-1 when leading at any point in a match. But when drawing at halftime we are 0-1-5, and when trailing, 0-0-11. Even worse, when we trail at any part of a match we are 0-0-15. In those 15 we have never come back to take a lead, and only twice to even draw level, before losing. Our goals for and against numbers are also revealing: in matches where we have led at any point, we are 24-7, when we have trailed at any point, 7-36. Ouch! All this might say something about coaching and tactics etc., but I dare say it says a lot more about the players.

I cling to the hope that, even with yesterday, the trends are such that if we continue as we have been over the past 10-12 matches, we will be safe. A big 'if,' I know. It won't be pretty, but I think we are a match for the teams around us and up into lower mid-table.

Cheers! Grimly excellent, or excellently grim?

I thought I'd look back over last season and the two playoff seasons to see how they compared. We've been good with a lead, whether at half-time or at any point in a match. (That probably holds true for all teams.) This season's futility really stands out when one looks at my other categories: drawing at half-time, and trailing at half-time/any point.

Numbers in order 15/6, 16/7, 17/8. Note that the numbers won't necessarily add up to 46 for any season as we have both led and trailed in a number of matches, and 0-0s don't get into the "at any point" of the totals.

    Leading at half-time: 13-2-2, 9-5-2, 12-2-1
    Leading at any point: 22-3-3, 16-7-2, 17-5-3

    Drawing at half-time: 10-8-4, 9-12-1, 5-5-8

    Trailing at half-time: 0-1-6, 2-2-4, 1-2-10
    Trailing at any point: 1-4-9, 5-10-6, 1-4-16

I don't suppose any side is really good at coming back from deficits, but we at least managed to gain some points from losing positions in those seasons, unlike this one. 16/7 really was exceptional for us in this regard. We also were good at hanging on to half-time draws, or even turning them into wins, again unlike this season. Again 16/7 was good for us.

As usual excellent research @River_City_Bantam@River_City_Bantam

My ‘sense of it’ this season, is that if we go behind, then that is it, is borne up by your statistical analysis.

The usual formula of win at home/draw away (or the equivalent in points) is usually more than good enough to get promoted. We need something approaching that form over the remaining games, to retain our place in League 1.

In reality the game at Barnsley was always going to be exceptionally difficult to get any positive result.

However the away games at Burton, Wycombe, Walsall, Oxford, Scunthorpe and Bristol are ones where we need some points. I am discounting Coventry, Portsmouth and Charlton which I think it would be too ambitious to expect any points.
