Interesting article in The Athletic today and some quotes from Stefan. Confirmation of the interest free loan that he has in the club and other bits of finance within the club as well as the bid in December.

It's pleasing to hear the progress being made off-field with the commercial team getting us back to break-even.

So the loan is still in place. I thought it had been paid back with the McBurnie cash

Interesting the Wagmi bid being alleged at £8.5m so Rupp would have made a profit after all.
The summer is time to show if he truely is a ‘proud custodian’

That was used for the deficit, prior to the deficit. Not the last deficit we had before this deficit.

He needs to show actions rather than words.

Interesting if true that he'd turned down such a good offer which leans me to believe surely It can't be fully true, but If it was then we can only hope the penny has finally dropped with him of the so much bigger returns we/he would get just for hanging around top half of L1, there could possibly be 10 teams or more in there that would potentially sell out away ends.

If the bid for the club was £8.5 million and he did not care for the club, he would have taken it, the abuse he has had.
He could have walked away with a nice profit.
What it does show is that the business needs to raise more money to exist , without the owner having to prop it up.
Better football will get more bums on seats , but how do we get that better football, which needs better players and for that more finance is required.

If only we didn't have to rent the ground, if only Covid hadn't cost us £1 mill+ ..hopefully Ryan can fully utilise Hughes profile and get Rupp to seize the opportunity to fully go for it. It's one thing to be sustainable but we have to show progress to attract the paying faithful.

I'm with you with regards Sparkies profile, a guy who has played at the top all his career Man Unt, Barca, Chelsea, Southampton, Everton and Blackburn he must have made an impression at those clubs hopefully his name and reputation will open doors for us with regards up and coming young Premiership kids to be loaned out.

The off field activity is important and the club has really stepped up there

Surely turning down the bid, where he could have turned a profit and covering the debts run up during hard times, is showing actions. What are fans really expecting. Its very easy to sit here and say invest, when there is no gaurantee of a return. Hand on heart , how many on here would risk their own capital and family's future security on such a gamble.
If you had millions in cash and could afford to lose it maybe, but if you have to realise assets to do it, completely different.
The football club needs to stand on its own two feet and the more commercial and ticket money we raise the better.
Mark Hughes has shown in a few games, that he can motivate these players, players that are deemed to be terrible.
What can he do with better players? To get these players we need more in the playing budget and we all have our part to play in this.

I expect him to treat us like a business he wants to grow, rather than one he sees as a financial millstone.

He’s taken this club nowhere but backwards and he doesn’t get a pass on anything, just because he rejected an offer that he thought would see the club worse off. Honestly, worse off? Our current trajectory sees us going down next season. He needs to back Sparks and Hughes to drive proper improvement at this club in the summer. Players, recruiting, scouting, training, sports science, training, fitness, academy. The lot. It needs a proper plan. Not reckless, blank chequebook stuff, but proper, calculated growth and investment.

I'm not convinced on this thing of bring in young Premier league players. Do they ever do well? Aside from the odd keeper that comes in to a league two club, do many actually make a major contribution to a promoted team?

We've had three games under Hughes, seen improvement and suddenly Rupp is the messiah. (Yes I'm exaggerating).
All its taken is an article from a journo with a narrative to change the minds of the naive.
Only if and when Rupp gets us promoted will I even think of bestowing a shred of praise.

Football is a business, just like any other. The only difference is the customers are also fans with all the emoition that goes with it. As a club we have been run on a shoestring for as long as i can remember and the owners have hardly ever put any of their own money in and if they have it has been taken back when posssible. Yes we have regressed since Mr Rupp took over but in Mark Hughes , i think we have the man to attract and motivate the players. The backing you write about will take a lot of investment and time, an improvement in the playing fortunes will bring in more finance and in a short time we have seen improvement under this manager. I would like to think that the owner has given the manager some sort of assurance about squad funding going forward. I am not sure he would have taken the job otherwise and he obviously can see the potential, if you get the playing side right. I have said before, Mr Rupp may own the club currently, but it belongs to the people of Bradford and we will still be here long after he has sold up and moved on.

Recruiting Mark Hughes alone, won’t nearly be enough. I agree that he’ll be better placed to attract a higher calibre of player - but will we pay what it takes? He’ll be very well placed to recommend improvements to the football operation throughout the club - but that’ll cost money.

The people of Bradford continue to put their money in, despite being ‘rewarded’ with an increasingly poor product.

The appointment of Hughes MUST signal a change in approach. One things for certain; If Rupp doesn’t provide the financial backing to start building this club up now, he never, ever will.
