    Maybe he has more commercial nous than that. It might be that the role was misrepresented to him, or he's broached a conversation with Sparks to say, 'this isn't what you said or I thought, it isn't working, lets agree to part ways and with some form of settlement we can get it sorted'. Doesn't mean paying him up in full, but it really all depends on the context.

    Or of course, it could be total b*llocks.

    If this is true then it makes a mockery of Sparks’ claims about this being his most extensive recruitment process.

    that said, it wouldn’t surprise me. He likes direct football and we’ve given him a squad not set up to play this way, and there hasn’t been much movement in January to reshape our bloated squad.

    Jewell, allegedly on the interview panel, didn’t want him, but Sparks did.

    Sparks’ position has become untenable. You can’t keep sacking and paying off managers at the rate we do.
