Atleast Jones has an excellent goal scoring record to justify the "hype", if you can call it that. He looked poor last year so needs to kick on this season or he'll be straight out of the door. I'm more concerned about Mcarten. We were lead to believe that he was hugely talented footballer with some even calling his price tag a bargain. Based on last season he's just an average footballer. He showed very little in games, looked very unfit ,was last resort under 2 separate managers and was behind players like Poleon and Bruenker in the pecking order. It's going to be make or break for both in a city shirt.

Would love to know who is ‘over rating’ Jones (and McCartan). Jones’ goals per game record is decent, there’s definitely a case that he could be more of a team player and that’s why he isn’t an automatic starter, but the potential is there.

WINNER - McCartan hit a purple patch (for Stanley) after Christmas, helped by 5 free-kick goals. But he had one 45min performance in a City shirt where he looked decent.

Jones was signed after doing really well for PV, but has never really got going for us. Injured not long after signing, was out another couple of times that season, including the last league game of the season and then missed most of last season too. Prior to his last injury, he wasn’t exactly knocking down Stuart’s door for inclusion.

    Massively overhyped

He certainly looked in good trim in that picture with his girl, in the games he played he always looked to be struggling as the game went on, has he been carrying the ankle injury all the time he's been at Valley Parade.

Seen comments posted along the lines of want to see Jones and McCartan given a string of games but to be honest it is up to them to show they are worth a place in the team - they need to show the right attitude and skill levels in training and take this into pre-season matches. They have NOT done enough to date to deserve a lengthy run out (I know Jones has been injury plagued) and I hope Collins tells them, as he has stated, they have a clean slate but also that they need to show more than they have to date - if not we are going to be carrying them as bit part players again and we cannot afford to do this if we are to progress. Sorry to be blunt but time to do it on the pitch fellas
