Thought he played really well today .

He played well on Tuesday too. I don't think he was properly fit at the beginning of the season. Since his return from injury his performances are much more in line with the calibre of player we were expecting.

 

Started off shaky with a few missed tackles but grew into the game and protected the defence very well.

 

We were shit till Nick Allamby turned up, looks to me like this new number 2 is taking this bunch of players down the same route and Akpan is one of those benefiting

 

I hope he comes good as Henry and O'brien won't be cheap. However they have helped reverse the oil tanker

 

Well I like him

 

Definitely coming good for us. Think the formation in midfield with Akpan sitting between defence and the trio of more attacking midfielders is looking settled and suits his game.

Likes a tackle too which is always a crowd pleaser!

 

Wasn’t at the cup replay so that’s the first time I’ve seen akpan make some difference in midfield. Until now he had looked disinterested and unfit. Needs to replicate that next week and beyond. He’s looked a better player since Henry came in. Whether that’s fitness competition for his place or both I don’t know. But more of the same please as he is a physical presence. Also like Mellor pushed on to make an aerial threat at dead ball kicks. He did well today. Again a rarity.

 

Thought he lost out on a number of challenges today and gave the ball away to easily

 

Think his best game in a City shirt today!! I also remarked that his display was what I thought we would get when signed but not yet materialised!!

 

He has been great last two games. I too suspect he was miles away from being fit at the start.

 

Anyone considered he was asked to play alongside the worst central midfielder we’ve seen in many years. Wright would make Paul scholes look

 

I actually thought in the first few games Wright (whilst less than impressive) played better than Akpan but as a pair they had a distinct lack of pace.

 

Don’t like him and I think that’s mostly built on the fact he seems to have all the tools on paper yet doesn’t apply them, seemingly this has been the case at every club he’s been at reading what others have said also.

 

If akpan starts to play to his potential we could see a big improvement in mid field.He has ability and I think his slow start has been a fitness issue and is it a coincidence he's improved since our new coach arrived?

I also think Mellor is going to show he's a good player.A full back who can score goals is a useful asset,just needs some coaching on defending better but I also think that will improve if we sign one or two quality central defenders who are good organisers.

 

Heard exactly this from a Blackburn fan when he signed. They said you’ll be left disappointed a lot of the time, feeling he could have imposed himself more.

He was very good against Posh on Tuesday tbf.

 

Burton fans I talked to at our match earlier in the season said he was mostly very good for them

 

He needs to experience what it's like to win for a while, because all season he's played like he doesn't know what it takes anymore.

If he factors in to a good run, his confidence may take a much needed and long, long awaited boost.

Not giving up on him yet, but he must do more for mem

 

Yeh he did but still think he was detrimental . Now fitter and with wright hopefully off to TOWIE we will see the best of him
