If you watch stick to football on YouTube, their guest this week was JJ Watt who was an NFL player that about a year back invested in Burnley and is helping run the club.

He said one of the alien things he can't grasp are football agents. For comparison, in the US the most an agent can ever ask for is a 3% cut of the contract as their fee but it's from the players salary. So as part of working for that player, the player can pay him up to 3% of the deal. The teams never pay the agent a penny.

He said football agents are like the wild west, just no rules, no structure and he couldn't get his head around the clubs paying the player as well as the agent, when the agent is working on behalf of the player.

Forest Green should be asking for their money back.

Still think it is mad that the club pays for the agent when they are acting on behalf of the player

The system is bizarre and needs reform. I recall some of the discussion when the system of licenced agents was introduced all those years ago. It was argued at the time that the buying club would inevitably pick up the agent's tab. If the player paid the agent directly (which is how it ought to happen imo), it would be 'negotiated' into the salary package paid by the club; if paid by the club, we'll that's obvious! But in other sectors, eg UK housing sector, the seller pays the fees. In the art sector, it's ostensibly the buyer. In IPL cricket, it's the player (usually). There isn't a single system which operates universally and there are too many vested interests to guarantee a logical outcome. Hopefully the new football regulator brings some sense to it all although I doubt it will be at the top of the priority list.

Plus how can the same agent work on behalf of both the club and the player. Surely they should be trying to get the best deal possible for their client?

Quite a few young kids there being represented, hopefully some reach their potential and/or we get some of that dough back.

Bilal Hussain is he the lad that went to Brighton and was playing in their EFL trophy team?

    Could definitely use some reform.

MMA is a relatively new sport and the agent works for the fight, not the promotion. They don't get anything from the UFC or equivalent organisations.

Not sure why football is a law unto itself?
