Academy that actually makes money

Yeah I’ve heard good things about them, they tried to sign my girlfriends 17 year old cousin but he signed for Barnsley instead.... but shows there intent, good luck to them,

Hope we can take a leaf out of there book

 

Not too sure on that one, a good academy does not guarantee an all important first team look what happened to their first team this season. Can see that happening to us next season if we don't concentrate on our first team

I think we really should focus on the academy. Yes I get first team football is important but they should be nuturing players like Reece stauntern or hatever his name is, Danny Devine and whoever else there is

Send them out on loan to whoever... for first team games, doesn’t matter if it’s Eccy United or Campion seriously if it’s ilkley town or whatever.. buttershaw whitestar

I think get the academy players really training like crazy, playing out on loan and if we can bring 3-4 into the first team every year then success.

 

It’s funny / ironic this thread was posted because I was talking about it at work today. An academy that makes money.

So we were talking about, how it’s possible to open an academy linked to a football club which is actually a university (city already kind of do this, with the football in the community stuff)

So, you charge like £7.5k per year 2/3 years per kid they get it funded by student finance England like any university degree. I don’t exactly know how it works I really don’t, they study a degree in sports coaching or whatever and then are part of the academy and get elite level of coaching and It’s up to them then.

So anyway I don’t exactly know how it works but, I was ‘part of a conversation about it ... about 9 hours ago’

Our academies aim is to bring players on then SELL them when they start showing promise can't see any advantage in doing that remember only a very few ever make the grade
Unless the monies are used to invest in the first team !!!!!!!!!

 

Yes there are because they can afford to fund them. They spent something like £250m on their academy set up with a replica of the Etihad pitch, loads of other pitches, 4G pitches, classrooms etc. etc. They spent almost as much as England did on St George's....

Hudders just closed their academy.

I coach at Queensbury Celtic and we have had Man City, Blackburn, Burnley, Sheff Utd scouts at our place looking at our U5s / U6s over the last 18 months.

BCFC scouting is improving at grassroots level....they did an Open Evening for all West Riding County FA Level 1 and 2 coaches down at Rawdon Meadows to highlight the facilities and the quality of coaching on offer and asked all local junior clubs to refer players on etc.

Since then we have had Craig Roberts, the BCFC scout up to our training sessions about 3 or 4 times so they are looking at the youngsters...plus they have just started a Development Centre down at Southfield Grange....

Academy over Development Squad every time...have people forgotten how much we have earned over the years from the likes of George Green, Tom Cleverley, Andre Wisdom, Fabian Delph, Oli McBurnie from the Academy....not in any development squad....the money comes from how long they have been at the club and how much the club spends on developing them...just like we got stung with Mark Stewart....

To me it seems like it is not worth the trouble with the development squad...do the likes of Jordy Hiwula and Devante Cole benefit from playing in the MCFC U23 team or have they now grown up they are playing Men's football....especially if detracting from the 1st Team Squad...

By the way I have FA Level 2 and 2 FA Youth Award Modules and have been coaching for 12 years....I know football...LOL....

 

Skip the academy and sign the big clubs rejects. Cheaper

Get yer C.V in lad, you know it makes sense!

 

Mistakes happen time and time again. Numerous players released by PL clubs who have had solid careers in the football league.

Some have gone on to be superstars.

 

U5s and U6s being scouted? Should they just not be enjoying playing football with their mates at that age?

 

My lad is only 6 and started training and playing for one of the local teams near me yet I have seen scouts from man Utd man city and Liverpool present. One lad is already training with utd during the week.
