Sorry to say this but since when has the Bradford Fire disaster become a "brand".

I have seen someone on facebook posing with a mug, with a big 56 on the side, the BCAFC badge, the names of the people who perished in the fire and then their name plastered across the top.

Not only that, someone else has posted themselves with the same mug.

Who's making these? They are disgusting and very distasteful. I don't care if some of the money is making it's way to the burns unit, there are far better ways to raise money than making something this crass.

I wasn't a fan of the flag at wembley, I am not a fan of the hoodies either, what's next for this "brand"?

A tough one. IF any proceeds are going to the burns unit and supporting it then I see that as a positive.

But yeh, could be viewed as distasteful too.

This was flagged up a couple of months ago, if i remember it was Huddersfield fan selling various printed mugs. Certainly not my cup of tea, i don't think they are done with any bad intentions but its what the 56 brand has evloved into. Started off with hoodies and t shirts to having a mug with the names of the dead emblazoned on the side.

Totally agree. It seems to be the younger element that weren't even born in 1985.

I cannot imagine any fan that suffered a loss or were even there that awful day would buy into this 'brand'. The first time I saw one of those hoodies I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

Let's remember the City and Lincoln fans who perished that day in the way we did for years with dignified respect at the annual memorial service and the last home game

Hate it. Without a doubt it started with the Wembley flag and has just snowballed from there. Its utterly distasteful.

It's extremely crass. Nothing stops you donating to the burns unit, why does it take getting something un return like a mug force peoples hand?

Is it a token of grief is only noted if it can be physically seen in the form of a hoodie or a cup, or a selfie whilst attending the memorial. What happened to quiet dignified respect?

There is a memorial, I don't see any need for commercial mementos.

I've always struggled with this. My own experience of the fire was that I wasn't there, being too young to attend. But I had school friends caught up in it and my neighbours were burnt, but all survived thankfully.

I think the younger element of our support want the tragedy to be remembered and acknowledged. Hence some of these artifacts making their way onto the market. However they don't realise that it really upsets those who lost loved ones that day.

I'll be honest and say I didn't really understand until I was stood next to an old chap on the last day of the season (2008 ish) and tears were streaming down his cheeks. I think the consensus should be dignified respect and remembrance of that day.

It's not an area of merchandise I would consider but as life (wrong Imo in this case) some will find an opportunity.

I thought I would just do a quick internet search and came across this, who buys this, with links below to T shirts and hoodies?

    https://www.redbubble.com/i/sticker/Bradford-City-56-Amber-by-getoffmyland/9997471.EJUG5

I have also come across this which I strongly agree with regarding Liverpool and attempting to brand 96.

    https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/liverpool-fc-issues-apology-after-18536749

"Ms Brookes said: “My brother is not a brand. Our 96 are not a brand.

"Our 96 did not die to line other people’s pockets or for them to make a living from."

The hoodies are awful, I always manage to see a few before a game home or away and it makes me cringe and feel uneasy. Plus the people wearing them don't look the brightest. As above commemorate at the memorial, but don't brand it.

I think a lot of is symbolic of the chance in society how if you aren't shouting it from the rooftops then you don't care and by making these gestures it somehow means you care more when really it means very little. Similar to how poppy appeal has been hijacked and used as a fashion accessory and if you don't wear one it means you don't care.

Awful items. Never liked the 25 year remembrance hoodies either. Not for me I’m afraid. I was there on the day, I’ve always had my own view of how it should be remembered and like most others it’s the quiet, reflective type.

As another message has suggested, these days with social media it’s almost become a competition for sympathy. I find that utterly embarrassing. When some fecker is singing “stand up for the 56” I could almost walk out.

A story in the T&A today is advertising a new batch of the 56 hoodies and T-shirts.

I'm guessing there will be an influx of people posting to Facebook of them in their new hoodies just like there was someone sharing his morning coffee in his 56 mug when I originally posted this thread.

It will be the new '56' summer fashion range. All for charity so all good apparently. Personally i find them distasteful and would rather give the money directly to charity such as MND or the burns unit.

FFS, why can't they give it a rest?
I was there, I witnessed the horror. I don't need some spotty oik who wasn't born then walking around, glorifying the tragedy to prove what an uber fan they are.
It sucks. I don't know anyone who was old enough to have been there who thinks this is acceptable.

There is an element of attention seeking that doesn't sit well, I mean how many other disasters do we have where people walk around in commemorative hoodies and t shirts? I know it seems the modern day thing to market every bloody thing but the one thing we've had with the fire commmerations is that it is low key and respectful. Two big numbers covering the whole back of a t shirt seems to be completely the opposite to this.
