GA knew his role was more advanced when he signed him.

It's strange because the system we had was largely working towards the end of the season and we adopted the system as GA himself admitted that he likes two up top and this was a way of getting them in without weakening the midfield.

With all that in mind, I'm struggling to understand the reason for switching to the split striker system instead of two genuine strikers. It just doesn't really make any sense.

 

Baldwin scan results confirm he’ll be out for 3-4 weeks. Alexander says Baldwin feels positive about it. Sarcevic looking at a similar timeframe of absence.

 

The strange thing is that Kav doesn’t actually look to be getting any better in his new role.
In the 5 games he’s played he’s been subbed once at HT and 3 times round about the hour mark.

GA is obviously seeing things differently but the general consensus seems to be he looks a bit lost in that role.

GA suggesting Kav is misfiring because he missed part of preseason. I'd suggest it could be because he's being asked to play in a different role to last season. I wonder if he'll even make the squad this weekend.

 

It's going to be an interesting month is September. First up Carlisle who we haven't played since they knocked us out of the play off semis 2 years ago. Newly mangerless, desperate for a win to kick start their season and the return of 2 ex city players in Lewis and Wyke. I'd be delighted to win this one but amazed if we do.
Next up 2 teams that have started the season well in Walsall and Wimbledon, who currently sit 2nd and 6th in the table respectively. Teams that we really need to be taking points off to avoid falling away from the chasing pack but I'm not feeling confident that we will.
We end the month at Harrogate, who we don't have a great record against and who we capitulated to in March.
I know the usual benchmark for seeing how things are panning out is 10 games, but I think we'll have a pretty good indication after these 4 games.

 

He doesn’t deserve to start and hasn’t since game two . Headless chicken , no control and passing abysmal. Sandersons overall game is a country mile better.

Wouldn’t disagree with that. As well as Kelly has done, I think the lack of a professional upbringing is holding him back. I don’t think he has the basic tools to play above this level. I don’t think he’s good enough to play centrally and with Byrne being slow and mistiming jumps, the defence just doesn’t fill me with confidence.

 

I'm not convinced by Shepherd just yet.

I think you are being far too harsh on young Kav; yes he is not in form, and yes he needs to be dropped as it is not good to keep playing young players when their confidence is on the floor. As @Inspector says he has been asked to play this dual role, both forward and running back. Young players are notoriously inconsistent. Give the lad a break.

 

Screams of GA trying to find an excuse, rather than admit this role doesn't work for Kav. Missing a part of pre-season would explain fitness, by Kav looks fit? He was in the first team sessions again from mid-July, nonsense that he isn't up to speed or tactically aware by September. It's totally this 10/SS role that just doesn't suit his play as he isn't technically that good to link up. I reckon he'll be on the bench on Saturday.
