He's just netted 25 in all competitions last term, 24 against teams in the division we're in and also got selected in the divisional team of the year while sweeping the boards at his own clubs presentation evening. You're discounting all of that because of one quiet game, it just doesn't make any sense to me Kevin.

Matt Smith is also 3 years younger than Derbyshire and at 35 in June isn't quite over the hill just yet, especially when he's never relied on pace and movement to get his goals.

Put it this way, if Halliday was 35 next month would you give him another year after the season he's just had? Of course you would, it would be madness not to.

 

Getting £250k for Big Jim and investing in Wyke wasnt bad either.

Plus, we're not exactly back to square one. Unless the likes of Kavanagh, Cook and Young move on. Don't forget, I'm only suggestion that he compliments our stroke force and provides a rotation option to rest Cook. I'm certainly not suggesting he's the first name on the team sheet and we should spend a fortune trying to bring him in.

I saw him in several games Dave not just ours, I just wasn’t impressed at all , he has “ presence” for sure , and he may come and do a job, but I’m probably wedded to the idea of pace , not bulk/ height in a forward. Age has little bearing and not a measure but I do suggest he’s coming to the end of his career . Halliday isn’t of course . There is a massive question outstanding as to why have Salford allowed him to leave as a free agent. I guess a new contract offer hasn’t even been forthcoming in such a very short space of time since the season end? I would love to know why , is it because he struggles to last 60 mins any longer. Do we really want to go down that road again? That’s causing severe doubt in my mind Dave.
