I cant see it in Smith. He turns 26 in a few weeks and has little to show for his career to date. His path is the same at every club he has joined, has a little run in the side because he looks like he SHOULD have something up top.... but nothing ever happens. Last season he had his first run of 5 or more EFL league starts in a row.... at his 8th club in the football league. He had one good run at Barrow in non-league when he was 20 and since then its a career of chances but little return.

He had his most league game time of his career at our place last season and bagged just 5 goals from 38. For me, he needs to drop to NL, try find his footing in the game and give it another go. I cant ever see him given a run as a starter here again.

Opinions Tony…I get that for sure. I just don’t like him. Odd I know but I have been hugely disappointed in him. His lack of game time likely supports that’s what the management team think perhaps? He’s always a second or third or even fourth choice ?

I don’t know the lad , but footballing wise, not for me. Zero “presence” on the pitch springs to mind?

I think Smith can score goals. He showed that albeit in the BSM cup last season. Give him chances and he will score.

He can also create his own too. I'd love to see him get a run in the side of more than a couple of games.

I think I’m in the same thought zone I was in the summer, both Oliver and Smith can go in January.
Sanderson I’ve thought has looked quite good, despite GA’s criticism, so whether he could be a perm?
Or intent in bringing in someone doing well elsewhere. The young lad on loan at Walsall Lowe-is going well, could we sign him?
looking at the National League Mitchell at Rochdale is still a decent age, Stead at Barnet too. A bit of intent in the market please-we’ve got the money for Young

He was playing against kids in the BSM cup, he wasn't playing that standard of opposition in league games which is why he struggled with the runs he's already had in the side.

He did keep our promotion hopes alive with a great goal in the last minute towards the back end of last season. I think he's worth a go because Kavanagh is no better than Joe Brown and Oliver seems to play for the opposition everytime we give him game time

Kavanagh has just had his best game of the season away to Tranmere, I think he needs to retain his shirt and see if he can maintain that level of performance.

I do hear what you're saying in that no one has really grabbed their chance but Smith has appeared 50 times for us already so he has had more chance than most.

I think after 50 games we know what we are getting from Smith, he isn't going to throw out a surprise and suddenly click into place. He's got 145 EFL league games under his belt, it's not like we're talking about a kid a few years out of an academy who is still learning his craft. He's nearly 26, his craft is pretty much set at this point.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if we sent him to on loan to the NL or left us to drop down, he goes on to bag 25 goals and suddenly has the confidence in his game to try L2 and above once more. But his last five seasons as an EFL striker and his league tallies have been 2024 - 5 goals, 2023 - 3 goals, 2022 - 1 goal, 2021 - 7 goals, 2020 - 4 goals. For the sake of his career I think he needs to find somewhere to go and start games, as his City career is probably going to be spent on the bench after so many chances.

Adam Reach anyone? Would be a vast improvement on Wright

I saw that Swansea have ended his trial at the end of last week, Rotherham had him at one point in the summer too and nothing came of it. Saw on another forum someone said that they think he's training with Blackpool, I think Steve Bruce had him at Sheff and WBA previously, so would make sense I suppose.

More chance of a Reach around m9.

If we can't afford Matty Platt or Jake Young then we certainly aren't bringing in someone of his reputation.

Declan John, former Bolton left wing back, is to sign for a L2 club. He was on trial at Cheltenham but he has turned down their offer to sign for another club in the division.

He's now 29, he spent the last 4 years on the books at Bolton, 3 of those in the first team before being loaned out to Salford last season.

    Probably going to Salford then?

If we signed him, GA Would still play Wright there.

We appear to already have a promising LWB in Richards, but again GA prefers Wright

One player we had links with in the close season won't be facing the Bantams.
Carlisle United striker Charlie Wyke has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a serious ankle injury.

Another soft tissue candidate for the forum’s amateur and wannabe physios and doctors. Who knew?;)

Hardly a soft tissue injury, try dislocated ankle from a nasty challenge. Stopped the game for a fair period whilst he was treated

    I was leg pulling ;)

“ Amateur physios on the forum”

I thought that would be slightly obvious, but hey .

No ill will towards Charlie , but begs the question would that mean the curtain comes to a close on his career?

I am glad we never brought him back, has hardly set the division on fire and a season out is not going to help his carear at all.
