Doesn't even need to be a defensive player. Just bring back a loan player that was shoehorned into that position last season and job will be a good 'un.

 

I think this message board would be full of rage towards the owner and management, if we had gained promotion and then lost most of the first team, because we could not afford to give them contracts for the new division or had only offered 1 year deals initially.
It is a massive gamble on Crawley's part. Yes they went up through the playoffs, when most thought they would go the other way.
I think we could see them do a Carlisle, if they do not have the finance to keep and attract the better players.

 

Thanks I did know that Bolton , Burton, Notts County and Stockport weren’t in L2 and that’s why I was more than happy to correct your comment that they had all joined L2 clubs despite whether they were big spending or not. More than delighted to help and correct ones slip of the tongue, which I’m sure it was

Something I've been wondering myself....

 

Matty Foulds did ok at left back but let's not pretend he was anything more than bang average and at the time everyone suggested it was an area we should be looking to upgrade on.

The fact he's at Harrogate further backs up that thought.

 

Same vibes as 'Devine did ok' and 'Cousin-Dawson should have been given a new contract'.

 

I didn't rate Fouls that much but he's still playing LB at Harrogate and by all accounts doing very well. Football is littered with players who have the attributes to play in more than one position, particularly when they are as similar in requirement as wide centre back in a 3 and full back. I don't understand why you find it so unfathomable

 

Cousin-dawson another who has played full back most of his career but will ultimately be a centre back. Kyle walker is one at the top level (before you say it's because FCD is rubbish) who interchanges between the two seamlessly

I don't think FCD is rubbish, nor do I think Foulds is, but I do think they aren't good enough for a team that should be aiming for promotion.

Once again the hypocrisy on here runs rampant.

We ridicule a team that achieved their aim (promotion) last year and because they’ve lost some players from last season and replaced them with players that nobody on here has probably even seen play we have them virtually relegated before a ball is kicked.
City however, who have failed dismally to achieve their aim over the last few seasons have replaced some regular first teamers from last year with players who played minor roles in teams from league 2 are given a free ride and the “we can’t judge them until we’ve seen them play 5/10 games” excuses are trotted out ad infinitum.
Crawley may indeed get relegated next year.
The “experts” on here had them relegated last season.
That went well.
Likewise,City may not get promoted and finish mid table.
That’s just football.

It looks like Crawley (who are playing league 1 football next season) are the new Bolton and Peterborough.
Teams who achieve their aim but somehow that doesn’t count because they are run by shysters and blokes who swear a lot.

People in glass houses and all that.

 

Yet hardly any if at all go on to be successful. They end up as utility players for a reason, that pretty much can't hold down a regular position. Football is very position specific.

 

I think they will do a Forest Green or worse still a Yeovil or Torquay
