Flying winger, hugely entertaining. Came to us from Halifax as I recall.

Dean Richards, Darren Moore. Two quality centrebacks.

Jacko doesn't get a mention cos he failed as our manager and was also manager of the TB's? Decent player for us.
What about Sticks? Pretty crap, but went on to big things with Villa and Leicester, and still loves the club.

Strikers I've liked over the years are: Torpey, McCarthy, Jewell, Thorne, Blake, Mills, Wells.

Another one to throw into the mix, Joe Cooke, very good player (and popular) whether he was wearing no 5 or 9. Also a very good athlete, so would be a good player to have in the present game, especially in our situation now.
What the Bradford End used to sing about Joe and Cec back in the seventies would not be acceptable now, can't believe it was then.

The trouble with these sort of threads, is that they focus on players performances, within fans memory.

Given that not many on here go back before the early 1960’s and none that l know before the early 1950’s, then a lot of former players are just lost in the midst of time.

One that l came over when doing a little research was Albert Whitehurst. Given his few appearances, perhaps the Peter Thorne of his era!

His stats suggest that in 1928/29 he scored an amazing 24 goals in a mere 15 appearances. A phenomenal strike rate. They certainly do not make players like that these days! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_Whitehurst

So if this is a top 100, then he surely must be in that group! As someone with an interest in history, l always like to take the long view.

Edinho I loved watching. Also not in living memory but one of the FA cup winning team at least.

Yes, that is just the problem, as we now can only go by the stats. How good it would be to unearth another Albert just now! I wonder why he didn't stay with us longer -- did Tranmere make an offer we couldn't refuse? That was an amazing run he had though.

Similarly, as SB posted above, at least a few (Speirs, O'Rourke at minimum, I'd suggest) of the FA Cup winning side should make the list.

Sorry @Ricc@Ricc - not seen any posts (that I can remember) describing Stuart the #4 in those terms.
My #1 of all time though.

I found it difficult to choose 10 favourite players. I only started watching City regularly from the 1990's so my choice is mainly in the modern era.
    Here are my 10:
    Stuart McCall
    Gareth Whalley
    Edinho
    James Hanson
    Nakhi Wells
    Peter Beagrie
    Benito Carbone
    Wayne Jacobs
    Gary Jones
    Jamie Lawrence

Narrowly missing the top 10 are Dean Richards, Eddie Youds, Peter Thorne and Robbie Blake

Definitely agree with Downsborough and Stowell but I only saw Hockey when he came back and I thought he was very poor. A bit like a bearded Micky Kennedy wanting to kick anything

Not in anybodys top ten, but I have very fond memories of Jimmy Quinn. That guy knew where the net was. Remember being on the kop when he scored a late winner against West Ham. Legendary!
