10% the margin of Failure

This season has been very frustrating. Looking at the performances then the figure 10% looms.

10% more points would have seen us with 84/85 points and an automatic place (although not as Champions).

10% more goals would have seen us with 67 goals. Six more goals, especially at home would have stoked up the ‘feel good’ factor (Mansfield and Salford would still have scored more).

Concede 10% fewer goals and you lose less (obvious). The defence was relatively decent last season. 10% less would have been 39, still more goals than Orient and Stockport!

10% faster. Our pace both on the ball and passing it seems slow compared to many other teams. Would it make the difference? Well 10% more should help.

10% reduction in the average age of the squad. One factor that has cropped up is that our players are old, that some lack pace, and can’t play for a whole game.

10% taller? Who knows, but we did get caught out so often at set pieces.

10% replacement of the squad. No the figure would be too low? We need several replacements and to move on a number.

Now even 12-15% improvement would see us walk the league.
