It was about 4 years ago - I took my booked seat in the main stand, at the KOP end.

I, along with my Grandson, took our seats 10 minutes before KO.Next to me was a large well dressed man, whom I tried to start a mild conversation with.

"I don't talk to pissheads, so leave well alone" WTF ?

I had my GS with me, and I was driving - so no drink had !

In the second half of the game, Hanson came so close to scoring - I said ....... to anyone who was listening ....... "How close was that ?"

The bloke next to me said "I told you - leave me alone - I came to watch the game, not listen to you !"

Oh wow !! ..... I quickly spied 2 seats about 5 rows back - yes, we moved.

At Tranmere away at the end of the 2013/14 season, a guy stood next to me started hurling some raging foul mouthed abuse at Stephen Darby after he headed the ball out for a corner. We were stood right at the bottom row of the stand so we were in hearing distance of the players.

I said to the guy to calm down as Darby hadn’t done anything wrong. That guy then responded by starting punching me. I didn’t fight back as there was a line of stewards in front of me and I really didn’t want to get thrown out by them. The stewards just left him to it and didn’t bother throwing him out which I found disappointing.

Cracking away day apart from that though. Had travelled on the Corn Dolly coach and spent the afternoon in Heswall before going to the match. Heswall is a wealthy area next to the sea where a lot of ex-Liverpool and ex-Everton players have moved to following retirement. We saw Jan Molby and Michael Thomas in a pub we were in.

Anyway, staying on topic, nowadays I just leave idiots next to me at the match to just be idiots. It’s really not worth the hassle.

Fortunately, at Valley Parade, the people who have season tickets around me in the North West Corner seem okay so I can’t imagine any rudeness or heated arguments any time soon. It’s more likely that I’ve been a drunken, annoying idiot in that area of the ground on occasion.

First few home games they seem to have been dumping the community freebies behind us in the nw corner.. First we had two kids footy teams shouting and carrying on, and last week was the refugees( (as if they havent suffered enough they now watch city) that they invite along.. Neither set have any interest the footy kids just pissed about whilst the the refugees were just seat kickers and nuisances.

I'm hoping its not gonna continue every week

I've never come close to that, bro' - but I feel for you. Really.

I like to think I've always conducted myself well, Home or Away - and until the last few years, I could 'look after myself'. But these days, I walk (more like hobble, skip and panic, lol) as soon as I get a 'sniff' of trouble. :)

Edit - Like you, I now prefer the NW Corner. :)

I must admit that I too have witnessed this type of behaviour. I took one of their escorts to one side and asked for some 'calmness'. His response was for me to show more understanding !!

The worst was a couple of seasons ago. A cup match, bloke sat behind us, first time I had seen him. He did nothing but use foul language from the start of play till the end. He was their shouting foul abuse at the players and his young son about 3 was there looking terrified. No amount of cajoling would stop him.

At the 2013 playoff final I think it was, Charlie was sat 1 or 2 rows behind and about 5 seats to the right. Completely over the top and embarrassing. Need to avoid at all costs.

I have an isle seat in NWC with the isle to my left, no-one in front or within 6 seats to my right and just another old, quiet gimmer behind me.. bliss.

Try and avoid the muppet that is Charlie at away games. He is not “a character” he is a bloody pain in the arse who spends most of the game trying to get folk to pay attention to his antics.

I always thought Mark Lawn was a man of the people, perhaps you'd ended up in the Directors Box.

We used to sit just behind a large chap who was never shy about letting players and officials know exactly what he thought of them. He was so loud that my younger sisters nicknamed him "foghorn". Funny thing is, a few years later he bought the club.
