Maybe the budget stated in interviews was not up to his standards and then he has been impressed by the recruitment?

    Who knows?

But it’s still a long season. From what I read he’s a coach and a motivator so maybe he doesn’t want a massive budget, just something to work with?

And what about if he hasn't got the tools to work with?

I can see how a team built around Payne would be one option, but he is only on loan. What happens if he is recalled / goes elsewhere in January. I wonder if events of the last couple of days have spoiled our new found relationship with Huddersfield.

That will also please fans as we didn't want to be a feeder club to a premiership team. Apparently.

Yep, as ever it's easy to tighten up at the back, the complicated bit is at the other end and he doesn't appear to have much to work with there?

Isn't it great to be talking football again, with a degree of excitement?

Can’t really say much more on this than what others have said. Good appointment on paper. What I like are the comments from Burchill. No nonsense, calls it as he sees it and takes no shit. That attitude is defo something we need right now. Will sort the men from the boys and those that actually want to play for the shirt.

As for his relationship with Edin, he must have compromised and decided to take more of a back seat. Can’t see Hopkins taking any of his “I know football bollocks”. What a difference 24hrs makes. Much more optimistic now. Need to get behind him and give him time to get his methodology into the players. Really looking forward to Saturday now.

So what are the chances of a deal being struck with DH close season for him to join us later and have a say in signings whilst MC was appointed by ER whilst the club got rid of everyone ER wanted to see the back of?

    Too Machiavellian?

Ah well, can't win them all! :)

In normal circumstances I prefer a captain to be an established (at the club and in his career) veteran who has done enough in the game to have the respect not only of his fellow players but also of management and ownership: someone who can both inspire/blast his fellow players as needed, but also can act as an intermediary between the players and management/owners if necessary. I just think that someone chosen by his fellows is better suited to this, especially the second role.

But we are hardly in normal circumstances at the moment!

Happy with the Hopkin appointment though. It's almost as if we're now back in pre-season; hopefully it won't take him long to bring some stability to our line-up and formation. It is a shame though that, except for free agents, he can't get reinforcements in until January. Still, if he can get and keep us solidly in mid-table until then, we should be alright. The players are, I think, better than what they've shown since Shrewsbury.

For the first time in my life I wanted us to lose last Saturday, felt strange but longer term knew it was a necessity. All for the win now, even bought tickets for Blackpool, this time yesterday there was no chance I was going.

Will be watching the touchline to see the difference between him and Collins.

Unless (ultimate conspiracy theory) maybe Huddersfield made it clear they were not happy with the standard of coaching fitness etc and made ongoing and new loan arrangements dependent on change

The Official Statement says "Hopkin will make a decision on the makeup of his backroom team in the near future."
That *hints* to me he'll be given an amount of freedom to make decisions. I really hope so.

I think the first 11 we have is pretty good to be honest, bit light at the back, but midfield and going forward is good - Scannell, Payne, Doyle all excellent.
I think there's a player in Akpan, and more to come from Wright.

i think it's strength in depth we lack...er...again.

if it's not going well there's very little to bring off the bench in terms of might be able to change a game

I think we will see a big change in the players on Saturday even wright who I think can be a good player on his day don’t think they were playing for Collins to be honest seems not a lot of the players liked him

I agree. Once again whilst the first XI is very good, the squad lacks depth in quality and numbers in key positions. The arrival of Ball is a help but when injuries or lack of form hit us (as they undoubtedly will) we'll struggle once again. As we've seen only recently, remove say Scannell and Robinson from the squad and our options are reduced to playing an attacking midfielder in an unfamiliar wide role and reducing his impact on the game. With a small squad of restricted abilities, we'll come up against that kind of issue time and time again through the season. That same issue was there at the start of last season and we haven't learned from that experience.

I'm really pleased that Hopkin has joined us to replace the inexperienced rookie coach who was appointed to a role by his boss which he was unsuitable for but the underlying weakness of the squad will still be with us for months to come.

Very good compared to what Dennis? Very good would suggest a top six team, if we have one then I'm a chinaman.

Taken from the T&A article : Hopkin will make a decision on the makeup of his backroom team in the near future.
