There not false attendance figures, there tickets sold, if they quoted anything else they would be defrauding the taxman

Sorry to sound like a c#ck, but they are false attendance figures. Attendance is "the act of being present at a place or event", not "the act of buying a ticket for an event".

It should actually be a double announcement - tickets sold and actual attendance. That way, nobody is being defrauded.

I suppose the point I’m rather clumsily trying to make is:
If they gave out only those in attendance, then people on here and elsewhere would be accusing the club of skimming the actual revenue from ticket sales

Agree that is the case for most. But reckon if we have shifted a 6-7k as some are saying, might get a few k more who chose to move seats, then hundreds to a k who will be influenced by results.

probably set to lose 4-5k fans who’ve had enough of incompetence

You could well be right and I'm not an accountant
I would have thought the taxman would have the figures from point of sale of season tickets and not have an interest in actual bums on seats

Exactly. I am a chartered accountant and the idea that HMRC would check every football club's 'official' attendance for tax purposes is a fallacy. Gone are the days of quill pens and abacuses even in HMRC offices.

The principal reason clubs show their 'official' attendance is that it's a requirement of the EFL (and other football bodies) and it's done for marketing purposes. All of the major leagues in every country prefer to show their 'attendances' in the best possible light to attract sponsors, advertising agencies etc. As we know in England, it's the likes of media giants such as Sky who contribute most money to football. Better for football bodies to be able to say 2 million fans 'attend' our games rather than 1 million.

I personally don't agree with how it's done - I'd prefer bums on seats - but fully understand why leagues want it done that way to attract more money into their sport from the media giants etc

They should just stop using the word attendance as it is misleading.

Whilst any drop is poor, I’m pleasantly surprised at how many we have actually sold. With three weeks to go, and with the increase in cost that’s not anywhere near as bad as I thought the drop off would be

So slightly lower, but not loads lower.

Yeah I think we're looking at 12,000-13,000 myself. Over 13,000 and a drop of 2,000 would be the best case scenario for what is a significant loss of sales.

There was always going to be a drop, but it could never be that big. Any drop is big news though. Nothing to celebrate. You celebrate increase not decreases.
