It seems to me that the one attribute that Walker has that Lewis was weak at, is dealing with crosses. Whether from corners or free kicks, he likes to come for the ball. It seems to suit our defenders who feel more confident with him in goal.

Now, to be fair, since Walker has come in the back line has been fairly settled and they're 30 odd games into a season, which helps, but it feels like a combination of a more settled back line and a keeper that likes to deal with crosses is going well.

It's always said Lewis had good reactions and is a good shot stopper. I haven't seen anything yet that Walker hasn't saved that we might have said Lewis would have. Maybe something will crop up in time but at the moment the positives that Lewis had don't seem to outweigh the positives that Walker brings.

Lewis had a good personality about the place and was a likeable chap. Maybe Walker will bring his own slant to that in time.

Anyway, thought it was a question worth asking.

We’d be in the top 7 right now if Walker had been the keeper from the start of season.
Lewis probably cost us about 7-9 points

and probably cost Hughes his job.

and furthermore he cost us the semi final at Carlisle

Apologies I started another thread with same theme can mods delete or merge?

Lewis probably got more plaudits due to patting the badge and saying UTFC

Nah, the badge patting and “utfc” is a bit over simplistic. He was a genuinely good keeper, and a came across very well. Hopefully whatever it is that’s caused his form to drop off so much gets sorted out. Not convinced that the issue is simply Barnsley related. I hope I’m wrong.
Sam is definitely an upgrade on this season’s Harry though.

Lewis seems to lose his concentration very easily.
The debacle at Newport with the rugby lines was comedy gold but he got away with that.
The howler at Carlisle in the playoff for their 3rd goal was very costly.

Let’s not get this wrong, Lewis was outstanding last season right up until the Carlisle PO game. He ran Cook close for POTY and we wouldn’t have got into the POs without him.

This year his form nosedived dramatically though and I don’t know if we’ll ever know why.
Looks like Carlisle have got this years version of Lewis rather than last years.

Three of the four goals conceded today by Lewis are hilarious. Looks like a fan has put gloves on and had a go at being a keeper.

Has a player for us had a bigger drop off? We’ve had some stinkers in our time but what about players who started very well and then became absolute dog muck?

He is a confidence player and right now that's through the floor. Haven't Carlisle lost every game since he started for them? But he gets a decent wage for it. For now.

Just watched em….Three maybe 4 goals were comedic defending and keeping. Truly awful, maybe all four were Lewis’s responsibility.

The Sky highlights showed one save he did make. The sarcastic cheers from the crowd spoke volumes. Not in a good place

A solid unspectacular keeper is what you need at this level and Walkers that man.

Carlisle defence , watching their last 4 highlights , would make any keeper shudder. We thought our back line up is slow with Taylor, Stubbs etc…. These two make Carlisle’s defence look like geriatrics .

The step in in class and pace of L1 forwards is a gulf!

I hope Walkers good start can continue, the rest is totally irrelevant. Lewis has gone that’s all there is to it, best of luck to the lad but I never get fixating over former players and managers. Twitter was pathetic yesterday evening, constant videos of the same Carlisle incident was borderline obsessive. I couldn’t even find a reply of our goal which was the only reason I went on there. I hope Lewis does rediscover his form as he was a nice lad and we may have a sell on but that’s all.

Edit - Just to add I think Walker is much better from crosses, but the main reason for our improvement defensively imo is Stubbs and Taylor not playing together, that partnership had no positive traits and meant we faces far more shots than we needed to.

Carlisle were a bang average league 2 side aided a playoff victory by Mark Hughes. The fact they are coming back down is of no surprise and shows the importance of building for the future and not just a one off promotion as Wrexham will find if they go up. They had one decent footballer in Moxon and he's gone to future probably now in the championship. I don't blame Lewis for leaving, he will have been well remunerated. But for his own future he should have looked at where they are heading, signing over priced league 2 standard players like Armstrong from Harrogate warranted a return to league 2.
