Cook (and before you say it, I know he's not a target man but that's how we use him)

Listened to a Hard Truth pod not long back and DMAC said that he expected Wrexham to sign a few because the owners aren't scared of running at a loss, because you'll make the money back up when you get promoted. They have the cushion of a pretty high money pit granted, but i have no doubt they'll be in the Championship within 2 or 3 more seasons.

Wrexham expected to offload a fair few today with Bryce Hossanah, Callum McFadzean, Jake Bickerstaff and Luke Young expected to be shopped. They need to create some space for registration too. One name who might be up in the air is Ollie Palmer, with him now sliding down to 4th choice striker, Wrexham may look to cash in if a good bid comes in. Plenty in L2 still looking for a striker.

Mansfield being one of those clubs. Although it might be a sign that their budget is about stretched as the two names they have been linked with all week are Omari Patrick and Tom Nichols, both not having great runs at their current clubs. Another name they have chased all month is Lee Gregory, but there are issues with Gregory and money, as well as wanting a long term deal.

Some on here will know far better than me but how do Wrexham deal with the financial implications, can't remember what they are called is it FFP or something?

Lot to be said for speculating to accumulate. SR and RS clearly believe it can be achieved sustainably. Compare Wrexham (and others) Vs BCFC and it clearly tells you which way works best if you genuinely want success

Wrexham posting two massive signings for the level on deadline day...... our only post is about Bobby Pointon and Ciaran Kelley going for a vegetarian curry. What a world we are in.

They are in their free hit year, so it pretty much doesn't matter for FFP until next season. When you get promoted from NL, i think its something like any players you had on contract in NL, don't count towards your FFP for your first season in the EFL, but any players you sign after July 1st do. So in theory, you have about 15-20 players who wont count towards your FFP, so if you have the money, get spending and try go back to back. It's not a complete free hit, but it's designed to give teams their best chance of staying up. But clubs like Wrexham and Stockport with the cash to spend try take advantage.

Stockport did it last season, buying a fair few and spending big on wages, think Olaofe was £250K from Millwall. But this season, all free transfers until making one loan deal a perm this month, as they are pretty much spent up. Sold a few this season too but they are banking on promotion.

0 in 11 for Grimsby and 0 in 6 for Bromley sounds about right for City

Fairly easily would be a trite response!

But seriously, Wrexham's revenues are more than twice ours largely because of various media deals with the likes of Disney. That means in FFP terms, they can spend more than twice what we can without breaching the FFP rules.

“No money left in the bank” no problem for Disney, we will sponsor all players wages bought in the January window.

It'll be interesting to see if they can not only sustain championship football but also kick on. I imagine they could be making huge losses given what we've seen at league 2 level and it could test the resolve of the Hollywood owners if success doesn't come as freely. Especially if they start to then receive criticism from entitled and spoilt fans.

I believe we have an option with Pointon if he goes out on loan regular football got to be good for his development.

There is no free hit year. That was certainly one of the consequences of the proposed squad salary cap regime if it had been introduced. It was however scrapped by the clubs before it was ever implemented. Wrexham and every other club being promoted from the NL to the EFL are subject to the same SCMP (the form of FFP used in the lower leagues) rules as the existing clubs.

Was around Sept/Oct from memory, but since Hollywood came in, they've spent about £10m in total on the club and were running at a loss. But as you say, it's easy to offset. Shirt sponsored by one of the worlds largest airlines, FX show was making about $800k per episode with streaming numbers for season 1 for Disney/FX, dunno what their cut of that is, but now season 2 is done I'd imagine it's a very nice earner. Think I saw their NL books were released from last season, their playing budget was £2.3m for last season.

Sparks said in our last promotion, we had a squad budget of £1.8m and this seasons is another million ish on top of that. When we played Notts on Sky, they said we had a top 4 budget, putting it all together it's a City playing budget of £2.8m this season. Sparks also said one team has a £4m budget this season (Wrexham). They are in another level to the rest of the league.
