Why would Rupp want to put the club up for sale?

Here’s a novel idea…..instead of pie in the sky dreams of buying the club or buying the ground which wouldn’t progress us from where we are now, how about we back the club financially by renewing season tickets at an increase of £100 which is way cheaper than buying a 25000 seat stadium that would need looking after.
And how about we attend cup games in bigger numbers which is a valuable source of extra income for the club.
That said, it goes without saying that we’d need assurances that the extra income would be used to strengthen the playing squad with proven players at this level.

In theory if this raises £1,000.000 (10,000 x £100) and the owner agrees to back it to the same tune then i'd be prepared to go with that. But only on that proviso that Rupp backs it.

Last paragraph is the potential stumbling block.

Without the reassurances its a tricky one.

I recall that there was a Stuart McCall fighting/transfer fund about the time he was manager on the first occasion.

Supporters were offered an opportunity to ‘donate’ money which would be totally ring fenced towards extra money for the transfer kitty.

    Not sure it got anywhere?

    Did anyone on here donate?

Perhaps @wetherbywhaler@wetherbywhaler can assist, sorry Roger but you are more likely to know what happened.

I remember that. I think I put £40 in, but I know the take up was very low indeed. Didn't we get Graeme Lee, Chris Brandon and the Bouldings?

I believe my £40 bought Rory Boulding...

I think the difficulty with the 'fighting fund' approach is that players are signed on 2 and 3 year contracts. The increase in income needs to be sustained to make a difference (assuming it is spent wisely on players who don't spend long periods injured). Otherwise a one-off million quid probably gets us 2-3 quality players at this level.

Ultimately, we need people paying more without that impacting attendance figures, which is probably unlikely. As it is, the club probably needs to put at £10-15 on tickets just to cover price increases in the last year.

I donated, can not remember how much exactly , but £50 rings a bell.
The take up was very low.
We have a hardcore of about 8000 fans, who would pay more, but about 7000 who are happy to pay around £8 for a game, yet moan when the product is poor.
More income is no guarantee of a wining team, Rhacic blew way over the budget and Rupp had to cover it i think.

More income isn't a guarantee but the correlation between spending and success is usually pretty high in terms of success. Just look at the top of the table in league 2. 6 of the top 8 are probably the biggest spenders in the division, even little Barrow are running at a loss (covered by the owners) in an attempt to push the club forward. As for the ticket price, it doesn't matter what the price per ticket is if the product is poor. The club set the prices and as such its up to them to make the product as watchable as possible. I would be prepared to pay more but only if it was set across the board. I think Loyalbantam makes a fair point in that paying more for generally what are though of as better seating areas could be an option.

Won't put my loose change into the club whilst the dynamic duo are at the helm
I wouldn't expect my customers to contribute towards improving my work place
Rupp is reportedly worth over 100 million and it's his train set !!! let him improve/rescue his own assets
Don't feel like contributing towards his empire thank you

    It’s a very difficult balance.

It may well be his train set, but vastly more important, is that it is yours, mine and all the members of this board, Football Club.

We will be here long after he eventually goes.

I don’t want to see Bradford City crash

Listing at a reported 10 million will automatically turn any interested parties away

I’d much rather the supporters funded the 2 year contract of decent Director of Football or experienced football advisor, than trying to raise millions to buy and maintain the club. The money has been there to be successful, it’s just being wasted. Finding £160k - £200k for the contract would be something that can be achieved in my opinion. Although in reality the owner should fund this role.
