Yeh be a great signing. I believe we tried for him last January as well and it was Wigan that u-turned on him, think Wyke was even in the crowd at Stockport away!!!

I do remember the meltdown on here though - moaning about his heart, its a risk, silly panic buy, Sparks clueless, Wyke is finished etc blah blah blah. Once again the unwashed masses on here were incorrect.

 

Wells injured his ankle in October and only came back about mid-december they said on commentary the other night. Looks like he was the main man at the start of the season but after so long, they might have another plan now. He doesn't do 90 minutes anymore, he's finished just 2 of his least 15 league starts and even when he was starting at the begging of the season, he only managed over 70 minutes in 4 games.

Doesn't seem to have that burst of pace he used to have, but he is approaching 34 at the end of the season, hardly surprising. But yes, allegedly on £20K after Bristol swooped into his negotiations with QPR and trumped them.

 

Phew! It’s a different “City”. For a second there I thought this was the former player we had signed!!!

 

Be decked if he came he came of the bench the other night and still looked like he could do a job at a higher level than ours

For sure would still do a job in L1. He can finish, just doesn't have that little 5 yards of movement he did when he was here. One of those who will need consistent wingers or 10s to get the ball into his feet, but if you can he'll get plenty even at his age.

 

Lets face it a championship level striker on 20k a week aint gonna be coming here

 

It would be interesting to read back through the thread and laugh at some of the pelters I got for suggesting that, simply because he was top of the assist charts.

Taking a decent free kick and having a few assists that way is nowhere near enough to elevate you to championship standard.

At this level I fully agree. I meant in the championship you clearly need much more of an all rounded game which is why I didn't believe the rumours about Watt.

He was in the team of the division and plays a style of football which can transfer higher up the ladder.

 

I can still see Watt going higher, teams who analyse and scout based upon statistics will see he’s consistently up there. He’s still quite young and the fee won’t be huge.
As for Wyke, him and money for Young could happen. In the dream world we pay off or find someone to take Derbyshire (Rochdale purely from a geographic pov?) and Wyke comes in and we keep Young

I liked him at our level.
Not sure he has the speed of thought for a lot higher.
Regularly caught with the ball and then gave silly fouls trying to recover.

I wonder if Sunderland would loan Jack Diamond out again? The one winger that could definitely put a pin point cross onto Cooks head.

 

Yeh cleared now so hopefully can get back to playing football. He would be a cracking signing. Unfortunately I dont see where he fits in.

If GA continues with the 3-4-3 we have Walker, Pointon, Chapman, Wright, Young, Smith and Cook fighting for 3 shirts - Oduor another to consider too but hopefully he is off.

 

I don't think we bring in another winger unless probably 2 leave, with the system we have. Then it depends on who leaves as Wright will already knock Pointon and Chapman one slot down the order. If we did bring in Diamond, we'd then pay another good loan fee on Diamond and then he and Wright would likely have to start with the short term cash spent on it. Depending on if we go 2 support and 1 striker or 2 strikers and 1 support, you'd have 3 of Wright, Diamond, Cook, Odour, Smith, Chapman, Pointon, Young & Walker starting and at least 2 maybe 3 on the bench. Then we could end up bringing in another target man so knocks one of Pointon or Chapman off the bench and into the stands.

If say Wilson and Tulloch go, I still don't see us bringing in another winger as we arent replacing people who make the 18 as is, so it would likely drop Pointon down the pecking order. I think one more only comes in if one or both of Chapman and Pointon leave on loan or perm. I think we end up with another striker this month and a wing back before we bring in another winger.

 

Wilson is definitely a keeper for me (and before anyone says yes I know he's a winger not a goalie). Shame he hasn't had more game time with the system we play
