I want quality players, yes expensive but I don’t care about the expense as long as we are not being sold a pup. I don’t want elderly has beens or never been’s. Find me a Waddle! That type of player who has skill and talent that would be the exception.

 

Don't know why some people are so down on Kelly, hasn't put a foot wrong since he's come in the team recently, strong on the air, couple of assists, couple of game saving recovery tackles...

 

Worth remembering that Kelly will be 26 at the start of next season. He'll see this one out in a mid table 4th tier club. But development wise, those days might be behind him soon and once you get to that 26/27 mark as a centre back, you pretty much need to know your game and show your product, more than looking for development.

Not saying this as a knock on Kelly at all, but the dev days might be done and he probably should be seen as a first teamer by next season if he is still here.

 

Not sure if this is correct but i have been told that Oliver is not at training today.

 

Prone to making an odd mistake but aren't they all.
Been very impressed with a player I'd never come across when he arrived.
Reminds me of steady Eddie (Youds) for those who can remember him.
Solid defender,nothing flash,and keeps it simple.

 

Except Eddie Youds was a hard, uncompromising, dirty bar steward who would break your leg as soon as look at you.

 

Mate, it's not like subbuteo where you get bored with the team and just change it for an entirely new one. Everyone is saying we have too many players in the squad, before we start getting rid of folk that are already in the team, and those deemed surplus to requirements aren't exactly running off to new clubs, are they?

 

He's been clumsy at times with fouls and has taken the hoofball option too frequently for me when he could have been a bit calmer and gone for a shorter pass but it's his first season so I'm hoping some of those things will round out a bit and be even better next season.

Yes on his way out IMO, the lads not had the best of luck injuries wise but he's hardly been the player we were told he was.

Oliver moving on would probably be in everyone's best interest. It frees up wages and frees up an space in the squad either for Young to be registered or another player. It also means he can try and restart his career after a very stop start 18 months.
I do like him and think he's been very unlucky with Cook's form and injuries, he showed what he can do in the spell in the games around Christmas/New Year last season. He also probably helped Cook last season with competition and when Cook needed to come off for the last 10-20 minutes he did a job which we didn't have the season before under Adams so Cook played far too many minutes.

 

Fair cop, I was largely going on their forum saying he "was next" for a loan out - but that's not a view the club will necessarily share haha

 

Not sure what you mean with regards your above comment: and frees up an space in the squad either for Young to be registered, isn't Jake already our player so he would already be registered to Bradford City ?

 

Perhaps he might be then, I'd never heard of him but just did a quick wiki check. They signed a forward (Hugill) so maybe he's now been pushed down the pecking order.

 

I'm assuming this myth about Oliver being productive around Christmas last year seems to have solely come from this forum because there are absolutely no stats to back it up.

He scored twice (one of which was definitely an own goal) on new year's Day and they were the only goals he'd scored all season apart from the late equaliser against Wimbledon back in October.

He's been unlucky with injuries, fair enough but to put it into context, since Derbyshire joined the club he's scored exactly the same amount of league goals despite playing many more minutes.

 

He's registered with the FA as our player but I don't think he will be registered in our squad with the EFL as we had 1 space left going into January and Wright will take that up so either we've not registered Young or we will be deregistering/selling another player
