The quintessential lower league target man. Not his fault he was never going to be more, he was excellent value for money at a time where the club was a a shit show until Parky grabbed us by the bootstraps.

Never, ever understood the haters. Been there at some of my favourite City moments. Goals galore and plenty, plenty of defensive work from set pieces against us. Yes, that headed goal at Villa Park. So pleased to be there for that, but so many more also.
Well earned retirement for a City legend.

 

He is a legend to me. Yes he wasn’t made for the upper leagues he was cast as big man up front in the lower leagues. He was outstanding and would run through brick walls for City. Too many good goals for me to remember. I was out of the country when we had our cup run. He is a real gent as well. He wound there having his photo taken. Enjoy your retirement Jim you deserve it.

 

It was always about the goals we scored because of him rather than the goals scored by him. Forever banging my head against the wall by people criticising his goal return.

 

Scored some of the most memorable goals in our history. I was on the top row directly behind the goal at Villa Park. A memory that will last a lifetime. Legend!

 

That night at Villa Park will always be the Hanson final.

 

Loved that montage, class act, deserves all the accolades that he gets, been no one near him since, not even Cookie

 

Unfairly criticised by some fans as they only looked at his goalscoring record and ignored his workrate as well as being a valuable defensive player from set pieces.

If Peter Taylor didn't put him off penalties for all of them years and he was regular penalty taker he would certainly be 2nd on the list of all time top scorers.

 

Big Jim H ,great player, under rated by many , absolute down to earth,sound lad scored some great goals and saved us very often , defending from corners .....legend in my eyes !!! Could never understand the criticism from our own fans , hopefully the one I got rejected from the ground for .....hope your eye has healed up

 

I loved him and his partnership with Wells during the glory years. Football does not get ANY better than giant killing like that side did.

Villa away, burton away, Northampton PO final, Leeds….. he scored important goals. Defenders couldn’t handle him.

As others have said, he was down to earth. Met him at a wedding once and he had time for a chat.

Not a big goalscorer, but boy was he a scorer of "big goals". Absolute legend. Good luck in all you do now, and if anyone come on to slag him off, they can do one.

 

I vividly remember the day James told me that he had been invited for a trial at City. I of course wished him good luck and not for one moment thinking what an impact this well mannered local lad would have with our club.

He went on to give us lots of wonderful memories and can ne rightly proud of what he achieved with us.

 

What we would give for a striker like Jimmy now.

 

As someone with a boot in the Guiseley camp aswell what daylight robbery.

But from a City point of view what a steal.

Well we do but we don’t have Gary Jones putting in pin point corners, instead we have Smallwood shite.
We don’t have Kyel Reid or Gary Thompson putting in quality crosses, instead we have crap from Ridehalgh, Halliday and Gillead.

 

I'm not having that. Ridehalgh put in a cracking cross on Saturday.

 

He was lucky the net stopped the ball drifting into the Kop
