Decent day of recycling: bottle tops to Patagonia (how much for a fecking shirt in there??), glasses to Specsavers, loads of stuff to a charity shop.

Reckon I've earned a night in the pub. So that's what I'm doing.

Decent haul... I would love them to do this at 10pm, probably seize a quarter of the cars at least.

 

They used to be. They have fantastic heritage. There's a really interesting book the founder wrote about their history. They started off manufacturing specific nuts, bolts, carbiners for their own climbing and then others asked then to make the same for them. Really interesting.

Over the last 10-15 years they became a bit more shady and joined up with other producers to start an index that looked at how sustainable clothing is, the only thing is the sustainability only took into account raw materials to sale and didn't consider end of life so, consequently there was this very odd situations where natural materials like wool that biodegrades was rated worse than nylon and polyester which had little impact on the environment when creating the raw materials despite microplastics being released in washing and going into the sea etc

More recently they've got better again, launching recycle and repair programmes and bring more transparent on labour. They even said they don't want to be regarded as sustainable as they're part of the problem. Some people feel they're being cynical and reacting to criticism.

Anyway, I'm a bit of a geek on clothing and materials, sustainability, recycling etc. Patagonia have a legacy good perception but it's not exactly as clear cut as some think.
