Oddly both my first home and away games where against Shrewsbury.

Would have been about 88/89 ish. First home game was dull nil nil i believe, then we won away there the year after 3-1 i think. My old man took me because we had a load of new players if memory serves me right. Think two of them scored but memory could be playing tricks, jimmy quinn and david Campbell

Scunthorpe at home in 74-75 as a 7 year old just after the 74 world cup. 3-0 win with a brace from Gerry Ingram I think. Following season was the FA Cup run and the quarter final defeat to that dodgy Southampton free kick. Got me hooked!

First game was versus blackburn rovers, mid eighties, we won, think it was 2-0 maybe, stu mccall scored a diving header and we were in the tiny midland rd stand. My memory is very sketchy, but macca definitely scored. Wasn't until 93/94 something like that when i went regularly, only the odd games in the eighties. But from the 90s i really was hooked.

Might not have been my first game but the first I remember. At VP v Blackpool in the FA Cup in 1973.

2 -1 to us was a cup shock as Blackpool were a good side (Div 2 I think).

Think it was last game of the 87/88 season, a point would've been enough for promotion but lost to Ipswich 3-2 at VP. Amazing game, been hooked ever since that day.

Is that the one where the Blackpool fans came across the pitch from the kop to be met half way by a rapidly emptying Bradford end before the game started???

It was about 1952, I was about 8, my father took me, don't have a clue who we were playing, I think it was a cup match, I don't know why he took me, as he used to go with his brother, perhaps he was unavailable so I must have been next choice. It was cold and damp, and I vowed never to go near a football match again, and I didn't untill 1967, but still don't remember the first game, but have been hooked ever since

I was at that game and there's a glimmer at the back of my mind which is saying it took place on a Sunday but I may be wrong. I certainly remember the pitch invasion by an army of Blackpool 'Suedeheads'. They were quickly repulsed although casualties were sustained by both sides!

Well in spite of yesterday's less than impressive performance, when asked if he'd like to go to another game, my 9 year old companion answered with a very enthusiastic 'deffo'!!

Obviously to win the game is the important thing to get new fans onboard, but I believe when someone like 9 year old companion can get taken in with the atmosphere, now I'm not suggesting it was the best yesterday but with a good vocal away following and our first competitive home game I thought it was a good atmosphere yesterday.

Mine was also vs Plymouth in the late 80's I guess (think we drew 1-1). But before that, and I still feel some guilt, my father who is a Leeds fan, used to take me to Elland Road a lot. I'm not sure what happened, but one day I just decided that I wanted to support Bradford City - that being the city where I was born and all that. Fair play to my dad, he didn't try and change my opinion and took me down to VP as soon as we were playing at home. Guilt not because I used to watch Leeds (they had a cracking team back then), but guilt because if my son suddenly decided he supports Man Utd or someone, after I'd been taking him to see City, I'd be pretty gutted :)

83/84 season was my first. I went with my mate and his dad. I can't remember exactly who it was against but I remember among the first few games were Sheffield Utd and Burnley. Happy days stood on the old kop.
