As @Ulysses S Grant@Ulysses S Grant pointed out it was the a night match and as @Park bantam@Park bantam says United put a very good side out that night (not like the modern game where they rest players) Gary Bailey, Gordon McQueen, Mike Duxbury, Arthur Albiston, Paul McGrath, Steve Coppell, Remi Moses, Arnold Muhren,Bryan Robson, Norman Whiteside, Frank Stapleton a good dig dong game but finishing 0-0.
As @Ulysses S Grant@Ulysses S Grant says it was Roy McFarland last game in charge before he walked out and went back to Derby County, I attended the away game which we lost 4-1 but Roy was fondly remembered that night his name was chanted several dozen times but hardly in a complementary manner.

If it’s the same Jack, I think his picture was in the T&A yesterday along with Rahic?

Can’t remember hardly anything about my first game, pre-season friendly 1984 vs either Halifax or Hudders.

First “proper” match BCFC 2-5 Reading just after we’d clinched promotion in the 84-85 season. My dad had started taking my older brother earlier that season (Tow Law FA cup game) usually sneaking out leaving me at home going mental that I’d been left behind. Fortunately after some persuasion from my dad my mum eventually relented, presumably as she was sick of a footy mad near 6 year old going apeshit at being left behind when they left.

First away game was a couple of days later at Bolton the day we won the title. Remember very little other than wooden seats being ripped out and thrown between City and Bolton fans.

Next game was May 11th 1985 which even as a youngster I’ll never forget

Two great nights of football mate, the Southend game was magic, as you say 2-0 down at half time came out playing towards the Bradford End (as that was where us young un's congregated) and made all the noise, was it Bruce Bannister, Johnny Hall and a Tony Leighton header, he hung in the air awaiting the ball and thumped it in with a great header, seen some great headers of a football over the years both at Bradford City and other clubs but Tony Leighton although only small in compassion could get up and head a ball as good as any.

    City 3 Shrewsbury 1, April 1986.

Won some tickets in the T and A and from there on, hooked on the Bantams.

Did "follow" a certain other team down the road due to friends and school pals.

    Now I know
    you are telling porkies
Our only away games in Feb 1910 were at Notts County and Liverpool (both inDivision 1)
We didn’t play Barrow until 1927

For the record my first game was a West Riding Cup Semi Final at Valley Parade on 03/05/1961 with the final score Bradford City 2 Bradford 3 after extra time

    First game my neighbour's lad took me to see City v Bournemouth 1977;
Joe Cooke on form and promotion sealed followed by fans marching onto City Hall,

Great atmosphere, i'll have some of this i thought.

We were relegated the following season.

    Typical.

Bradford Schoolboys v Blackpool Schoolboys 58/59 or possibly 59/60. Found it quite overwhelming as I've no memory of having even seeing it on tv. Remember being fascinated by the large Bradford coat of arms they had on the shirt but most of the rest is hazy to say the least but from memory the Hibbert brothers were playing as well as John Brown in goal who went to play for Preston and Billy Legge who went on to play for Huddersfield.

Remember the facilities being rather crude and basic and the floodlights were startling too.

Pushed to remember my first City but I know Rod Green was our striker as is now and an early match I remember him bundling through into the net in the process of scoring a goal, strong memory as we were stood near that post in the Bradford End.

    Bradford City 5-1 Plymouth Argyle

0-0 at half time as I recall, and an own goal past Roger Freestone started the hammering - remember going to my grandparents after, and they'd seen 0-0 at half time and given up on it as a bore draw!!

My first real City experience was with nab wood footy and we got tickets to go to city v aldershot circa 1979 and was hooked from then on.

My first match was a home game for Chelmsford City at New Road. Approximately 1969. Dad took us. Ashamed to say I can't remember who they played or the score. After that I saw Everton and Liverpool when I was a student in Liverpool. Moved to Bradford in 1983. Followed City as work colleagues were big supporters but didn't become a regular supporter until 1994. Oxford I recall.
