Not a good performance against what seemed like playing against a copy cat Mansfield side, who were frankly awful. I think we dodged a massive bullet with Williams, who was completely ineffective. I missed the first 40 mins like most , but we were better than comfortable throughout and could and should have had more if not for some half decent finishing.

I couldn’t see their system nor tactics. Truly ineffective. Lewis hats off back to the keeper we know. Non of the outfield were o/standing, they just battled and fought, sometimes ott!

The consensus around me was that it had crossed the line, I seemed to be the only one who thought otherwise and I am far from sure that I was right.

    Another Gills point of view
Awful performance against a very poor thuggish hoofball Bradford. One step forward, two steps back, it seems? Maybe we should employ their game plan of smashing the living daylights out of the ball every time their defence has it as seems to be too much for us to deal with!

Best view was probably from the side stand as opposed to the back of the goal?

Yes, I was in that side stand. When the shot went in I thought it was a certain goal, but Harry Lewis did remarkably well to get down to it. Whether or not it crossed over the line, the record books will show the Harry Lewis kept a clean sheet.

The same ‘very poor, thuggish hoofball Bradford’ that has won its last five games in all competitions, conceding one goal and scoring fifteen. If that’s what thuggish hoofball gets you then I’ll take it, thank you very much. In reality, we mixed it up today - some hoofball, some diagonals to the wingbacks and some passing through the middle. It was a solid away performance and let’s hope we have many more like it.
The fact is that Gillingham were pretty woeful today. Despite being at home they had seven shots to our twelve and only one on target. Although they had periods of pressure they did sod all with it and our defence looked pretty comfortable for most of the game. On the basis of that I fancy us to finish higher than they do.

We’ve gone back to ‘dinosaur’ tactics with the opposition criticising us and guess what we’ve won 5 on the bounce.
There’s no prizes when opposition fans and managers praise our pretty play after they’ve took 3 points.
I’m with you, I’ll take this style of play all day long.

The part of the game we have improved the most is if the ball the pressing the closing down the work rate the intensity call it what you want but that part of the game has improved no end and is the reason why Gillingham were poor.

Absolutely. We are now harassing limited L2 defenders into making mistakes instead of sitting back and letting them play out at leisure. Hughes often talked about pressing teams but never actually managed to make it happen.

Indeed. This is L2, not the EPL. All that passing around at the back, supposedly drawing in the opposition and manoeuvring our way through the press was getting us nowhere - I was about to type ‘nowhere fast’ but it was actually ‘nowhere extremely slowly’, It was like watching paint dry. We were creating very few chances and we never had enough players near the opposition box to maintain any pressure.
Alexander’s more direct tactics have given us more chances per game, more goals and much more excitement. And made us tighter at the back in the process. Long may it continue.

Remember weren’t they going to “walk the division” , once they had signed Williams ? . He was awfully anonymous .

Great win today, didn't see the game or really follow apart from the odd glance at Sky Sports latest score thingy, jus got home now from drinks with mates around Todmorden and Hebden surprisingly still pretty sober, I'm very happy my pre match prediction of a 2-0 win for City early in the thread came In. I've read a couple of comments within this thread after a quick read back saying Gills fan calling us thuggish etc....Well tbh that pleases me as much as anything else, to get out of this league is not about fancy tactics/formations etc it's mainly based on hard work and grinding out results by hook or by crook, which is exactly what we've been short off.
