“Collops” in my old Manningham enclave.

It drives the wife nuts when I use the term, so I use it all the time…lol!

Are you talking about the “cakes” you get from the chippy?

I didn't know what proper scallops were until I was older, always thought they were potato slices my mum used to fry up for my dad.

There was a chippy near us growing up that sold potato scallops. They were massive and cost 2p each, 5p if you wanted it in a teacake. Absolute bargain.

No. Cakes were (are) two layers of potato with a layer of fish in the middle. Scollops are just a slice of battered potato.

No, collops were slices of potato fried like chips or occasionally the same but battered.

Odd you should mention the “ Yorkshire Cake”. Brand new fish shop / diner opened in Kings Lynn recently by a couple from Skeggy. Gave it a try last week. Oh my word it’s like being home again. Cooked fresh. Absolutely stunningly cooked with fresh fish between the slices of potato, non of that mashed up stuff. Certainly going again!

How strange I never had collops. My Dad used to fry potatoes not battered though. Loves them.
