David Artell, the former Crewe boss has appeared from nowhere at 4/1. Wasn't even long listed earlier.

He's got promoted out of the league with Crewe and then kept them up in League 1.

I'm getting a bit twitchy about whether we can avoid getting into a relegation scrap. The chaos at the club bears striking similarities to the situation at various clubs who've dropped out of the league in recent times. Managerial merry-go-round, weak and unsettled squad, poor leadership, absentee and disinterested foreign owner etc. A more serious injury to Cook than he has already would mean we'd really struggle to score and we couldn't beat the bottom of the table last time out. It seems already that we're struggling to recruit a decent manager and the same might well apply to players in January, assuming, of course, that we have any money to spend. Once a club gets the reputation of being disfunctional then it's very easy for things to completely fall apart. I'm not saying all this will happen but it's not beyond the bounds of possibility. We desperately need some stability and at the moment it's hard to see where that's going to come from.

    That's some move.
He was 33/1 half an hour ago.

If his family don’t want to move north why would he go to Lincoln?

    Ooo you cynic :)
I have teenage children who I’d not want to move schools in the middle of their GCSE’s too. It’s more than a valid reason.

I like David Artell and feel he's been very unfortunate not to have worked in the twenty months since leaving Crewe.
As you say he did a good job in difficult circumstances there. He took some time to mould the Crewe team into promotion winners so some of that rarest quality, patience, would be needed.

Such a small market it probably only takes a couple of bets to drop the odds

Put Twitter down and learn to think for yourself. Twitter mind set on here doesn’t work sadly .

But surely you wouldn't remember that half way through interview process for a job hundreds of miles away from home

If they last 2 years they will have done better than average across the leagues. Average 'life span' of a manager is 1.5 years

You do that BEFORE applying for the role. One looks a right bell end if you do it after the job is offered. If he thinks like that , then we may have dodged a bullet perhaps? Totally unprofessional imho.

Who knows? Maybe it’s not the reason but Parker touched on it yesterday as the preliminary to back word being given.

Reckon a fair amount has gone on Artell then tonight. Small market for sure, but that is a proper jump in half hour.

He can't have had a big budget either. He thinks he had the smallest budget in League 1, when he got them to finish 12th.

Because family isn't the only factor.

People are looking at this and thinking its only one thing because the leak says "family reasons".

It isn't only one thing. He was going to work around the family "problem" but then, as @Faithful Bantam@Faithful Bantam says, he had a bit more of a look under the hood and decided actually he couldn't put up with x and y as well as the family compromise so he said no.

Seems odd how people are suddenly forgetting the quotes from Cowley the other day about a club that were self aware enough to know where it is today and has a clear vision of where it wants to go. That's the crux of it. He doesn't believe City have that and therefore as he's already compromising on the family aspect he feels he can't compromise on more things so he's saying "family reasons" rather than listing out every problem.

Because he hasn’t turned the job down for family reasons.
Sparks said on Tuesday we were conducting final interviews.. so when has Cowley turned it down?
Presumably he had at least one interview before Ryan offered him the job.. didn’t the “family reasons” get discussed then?

You're falling into the same trap as others.

He knew there was a family issue but was prepared to work around it. When he actually got into the details he decided he couldn't put up with other issues as well as the family problem, so he pulled out.
