    The interviewer needs to have a plan on how to get the best candidates. The plan needs to reflect what City are looking for in a manager. As an interviewer you need to be able to recognise transferable skills and what they learnt from that experience that they could bring to City. I would like to see a manager with resilience, now that is not something you just pick up, you normally learn that as a child actually. Calmness in a crisis and the willingness to go the extra mile and be open to changing your plans if plan A isn’t working. Also the ability to pick both yourself and the players up.

    A lot of that comes from experience that’s why it’s good to get as many different references as you can. As someone else posted you can be very good at interviewing but less good at the job you are applying for

    That is true. However I expect a good interviewer to suss them out. If I was Sparks I would get someone to help me out.

    Not if research is undertaken before one sits down . Without giving candidates their own CV asking them questions on their CV alone catches many out because they can even remember their own b/s .

    “Yes I studied at Leeds in those halls , what is the name of the nearest pub?” Next!

    Hughes was a shoe in once his CV was found in the bin and ironed flat, Adams was poached by us, so I doubt he was even interviewed.

    Agreed, I like the idea of a base salary and £1,000 per point above 50 points. I think the base salary will be higher now than it was in 2012 though.

    Supposedly, although I rather think it’s been ascribed to a good number of people.

    Milton also said “They also serve who only stand and wait”, a quote which is quite descriptive of some of our players over the past few years.
