I would be quite interested to know how the manager/ coach recruitment process actually does work in professional football in the UK.

Like you I used to recruit and know the ins and outs, and I can't imagine that football clubs as large visible businesses can or would side-step employment law or earn any Kitemarks with poor recruitment. But looking from outside in it often seems like Clubs do it by their networks and a nod and a wink, often done on the back of a fag packet (an e-mail in spam:( for eg), sealed with a dodgy handshake, and far too quickly for any meaningful adherence to the aforementioned process you mention.

Should imagine there is a football managers forum with the jobs circulated, but none of it feels that transparent?

Would be quite happy with either the Cowley's, Karl Robinson, Leam Richardson or John Eustace (lol)!
But please........not "Relegation Redfearn" (ask the Scarborough fans!)
Just let's get it right this time please, Ryan!

It's not going to be him.
Jamie Raynor on X: ""I'm here to do a short-term job. It's not going to go into months and months." More of a reiteration than a reminder from Kevin McDonald at today's press conference that his player-manager role at Bradford City will be just as caretaker. #bcafc @BBCWYS https://t.co/cRcCsDZbku" / X (twitter.com)

Skirting employment law where recruitment is concerned is pretty simple in all honesty. It’s all about opinions , as a result proving wrong doing is the hardest thing going and that’s the sole reason why you don’t hear of successful cases.

The next manager who comes in should have Kmac on the coaching staff as a player/coach.
He knows how to play football the right way and with his experience and guidance we can start to enjoy football and move up this league.
He gets to play and gains management experience and everyone’s a winner

The guy he does the podcasts with is a big City fan so they often discuss events at VP.

Well he has stated categorically that he can’t do both. So it stands to sense that the manager/player role has a limited life. However, if he did really well the full time job as manager may well be something he might rethink. I know he wants to extend his player career but that can only get harder. When he made his plan to return to his playing career this opportunity that he is clearly enjoying wasn’t even on the horizon.

Again, this is absolute revisionism... you make it out he had 2 league titles and an EFL trophy at the time we appointed Hughes but that's not the case, because he won his 2nd last season so there was only one league title at the time we appointed Hughes and it could well have been considered to have an asterix next to as it was on PPG in the COVID season. Then the Paint Pot trophy I'm not even sure he can claim as his own given he didn't actually get Salford to the final, he won the postponed final only from the year before. His spell at Doncaster, his most recent job before Hughes was appointed, was disastrous.

And then, you've done some very strange things in cherry-picking Hughes' record from Wikipedia... For example, at Blackburn you copied and pasted the phrase "Hughes's side was accused of being "over-physical" and "dirty" on multiple occasions' word for word, but failed to copy and paste the phrases 'His key aim was to keep Blackburn clear of relegation, which he succeeded in doing, while also taking the club to an FA Cup semi-final for the first time in over 40 years", "In his second season, he helped Blackburn finish inside the top six of the Premier League and subsequently qualify for the UEFA Cup, beating teams such as Chelsea, Manchester United (twice) and Arsenal en route. After just missing out on the League Cup final, his team sealed their spot in Europe by defeating champions Chelsea 1–0 at home", "reached the UEFA Cup round of 32", "Rovers faced Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final, their third consecutive semi-final since Hughes took charge", and "He won the Premier League Manager of the Month award for October 2007,[41] and eventually led Blackburn to a league finish of seventh in 2007–08".

At Fulham you've mentioned Al Fayed found him a strange man (not really sure someone as bizarre as Al Fayed thinking you're strange is necessarly a bad thing!) and he 'absolutely lost the dressing room', which I'm guessing you're basing on a couple of ex-players saying it on podcasts many years later, but failed to mention he finished 8th in the Premier League that season and qualfied for the UEFA Cup through the Fair Play league - quite the acheivements with an absolutley lost dressing room!

At QPR you have framed "Victories over Liverpool, Arsenal, Stoke City, Swansea City and Tottenham meant that they went into the final match of the season two points ahead of Bolton.[79] They faced Hughes's former club Manchester City at the City of Manchester Stadium, who needed a win to secure the Premier League title. Despite scoring twice through Cissé and Jamie Mackie, two late goals from Edin Džeko and Sergio Agüero earned City a dramatic victory and championship title" as they only stayed up because Bolton failed to beat Stoke... well, yes, City only stayed up because Wimbledon failed to beat Southampton but I can't help but feel looking at it that way rather misses some important context!

At Stoke you've begrudgingly admitted he did relatively well before getting sacked after going on a bad run but failed to mention the bad run was in his 5th season and that his 'relatively well' was Stoke's best ever finishes in their history 3 years in a row playing great football.

It's clear that at the time of the appointment Hughes was absolutely considered by most people the better appointment. Fair play if you were at the time saying we should have gone for Wellens over Hughes, I can't be bothered going back to check what you were actually saying at the time, but framing it as if it should have been completely obvious at the time because of Wellen's great record he didn't have yet isn't in line with the facts at the time (unless you carefully curate which facts you wish to include!)

Exactly. I'm not sure why people keep thinking he will change his mind about it when every time he's asked about it, he makes it very clear he has no intention of taking over full time.
