Pointing has played Northern premier league football,where they do actually put in hard challenges,unlike PL2.

 

The fourth division is a proving ground for young players out on their first loans in the big leagues.
We're no different from any other clubs in this league in that we can't get loan players with decent experience because those types are loaned further up the leagues. We've seen it with Wright and Banks from last season. As soon as they look good, they move up.
We just have to hope that this latest crop has a couple of diamonds in the rough

 

That hardly makes him a shoe-in into the side over lads who have been coached by top level coaches through their respective youth set ups and who play against equally talented young players.
Pointon has proved nothing yet. Same as these other lads.

They’re just back up loanees when our main targets,the lad from Palace and the Leicester player have fallen through. I have no insider knowledge, I just remember all the euphoria when we signed Costello. The quote was “ Kompany and Hughes know what they’re talking about” with him when someone on Twitter dared to point out he’d never scored a goal or assist. Well clearly they didn’t as he was woeful as was Bola and Nevers. When our main targets fall through its a scattergun approach.

 

Pointon's in our squad after only been promoted recently. Other than playing every minute, I don't know what you want.

League 2 is a tough world for a new youngster - it took Wells a season to fully get going and he was a bit more experienced.

Higher up the league, Andy O'Brien was another that Jewell took his time with. Biggest example was Robbie Blake - signed in March 1997, wasn't a first team regular until October 1998.

You may not have noticed, but it's taken the likes of Foden until this season to get become an 'automatic' starter.

I've been impressed with Hughes use of his so far. Throwing him in to face a Parky team in what will be easily the most feral atmosphere away from home this season, shows that he has a lot of faith in him.

He's an investment for the future, not just August 2023.

He has a point though. Nevers, Costelloe and Bola were awful. These lads might not be, but if they're of a similar ilk then there's no way they should be getting game time ahead of Pointon. Similar age, and the investment in giving experience to Pointon will be ours to reap.

 

I watched him a play a few times for Liversedge. Agreed the standard isn’t great but he was head and shoulders above anyone else he played against. For an 18yr old who doesn’t exactly have size on his side that’s impressive when all most of the blokes wanted to do was kick him up in the air.

 

Nope, you are being silly,it was Kymani Gordon who was at Carlisle and a young Leicester forward who’s name escapes me at the moment.

 

Gordon was definitely a target the Leicester guy was pure speculation. The club can’t do anything if a player doesn’t want the move. But the same thing happens at every club you miss out on on or two and move on to other targets

 

He's only contracted to next summer. If he really is an investment for the future, that needs extending pronto.

 

Another example…Parky’s early use of McBurnie, because if Jim’s injury. It set his progress back in the short term imho.

 

Think it was Rotherham? We played teenage McBurnie and Wells up front and we got bullied all game long. McBurnie looked like he was thrown to the slaughter. He said himself before his none league loan toughened him up by the time he joined Swansea.
