We certainly need a bit more quality bringing in.

 

Not a chance that Walker will play on the left hand side or that Smallwood will play over on the right.
Plus we a new left back.

 

Id imagine that Hughes intends to bring someone in to replace Gilliead, someone in the Williams mould. We also need a better LB. An I don't see Walker playing on the left. Hughes may tinker with a diamond formation, with Walker behind the 2 strikers. Whether Cook's partner happens to be Agyei, remains to be seen

 

I’d really, really like us to sign Agyei. I can admit I knew nothing of him until he played against us this season, but the away game at Crewe he tore us to shreds and every time he got the ball I thought “oh no…” (we were also dire that night!).

Since I’ve done some research and he’s the kind of signing we rarely make - kind of one of those Peterborough type players who ends up getting sold for a hefty fee to championship or above! I don’t know whether he’s that good to progress that far, or even if we are truest even in the running to potentially get him - but I’d be damn chuffed if we did!

I’ll remain optimistic, but based on 30+ years of supporting city, won’t get my hopes up too much.

 

I wonder if Charles Vernam was the player who was mentioned last week about a familiar player returning . Apparently he rejected an offer from us in favour of Grimsby.

 

Insiderbantam suggesting another defender is coming in, has to be a left back surely, couldn't possibly be another cb and we have 2 right backs

 

Hendrie may leave, leaving a spot at RB up for grabs. Hughes may believe that Halliday needs competition
We may also end up playing 3 at the back this season, an with it being likely that Odusina or Kelly may leave/go out on loan, it isn't impossible that another CB may come in, although this time Im guessing it would be a ball-playing one

An the obvious one, LB, I really hope this is a position that Hughes is willing to spend the cash on

 

I don't think we were ever close to re-signing Vernam. If an old face is returning to the club, I'd like to hope that it would be Wright or Banks, But knowing City, it'l most likely be Omari Patrick

If true, it could be someone with height. Looks like Hughes has identified this as an issue, particularly in those areas where we conceded quite a few and often in the dying minutes of a game, after the ball had been launched into the box.

 

Wright or Banks would be good, however, I think highly unlikely.

How about Ben Whitfield returning home, I would be as equally happy, but would take a decent transfer fee to take him from Barrow, so again, probably unlikely

 

RB possibly to compete with Halliday - Hendries days look numbered. I read that Hughes has given up on Odusina so you never know in terms of a CB if he plans on going 3 at back.

More than likely a LB to replace Foulds and compete with Ridehalgh though.

 

That has been mentioned before - think its purely because he is from Bradford and a suggestion.

I think LB is done, after McDonald i think will play a back 3/5 with wing backs and it's Odour and Ridehalgh. Hendrie and Odusina will probably leave, so it could be a new RWB or CB to replace one of those. Just cant see a world where you start McDonald and Smallwood and expect either to have legs to track back. Neither of Platt, Taylor or Stubbs have much in terms of pace either, i just think if that midfield starts, we'll have 3 CBs and 1 of them just permanently sitting further back when we have the ball just in case.

Hughes seems a reactionary manager, and after seeing how the only teams that did anything in this league last season all played the wing back system, he'll give it a go for the start.

 

The lack of pace in our back six is alarming.
