Summer 2023 Transfer Rumours

I can't help but wonder if the recent T&A article hyping up the successes of the medical and performance team was in preparation for Williams' arrival! Williams has shown he can string back to back games together when used correctly. Walker showed he can also string back to back games together but fades towards the end of games. If we can use them together in moderation then the quality they both offer is worth the risk in my opinion. We should be demanding more from Chapman & Osadebe next season who can cover that CAM role as well.

Its obviously early days but the potential Williams signing coupled with Oduor saying he will be looking to play LW suggests to me that we shouldn't be expecting Hughes to deviate too much from his favoured 4231 next season either.

 

Agree. Although from a pace point of view, he may not be the quickest in terms of sprinting, where he did look quick vs us, was his ability to turn and move the ball on. Thought the same every time I’ve watched him. I always thought Watt had the same asset.

Quickly moving the ball on was a massive flaw in our CM last season, Smallwood especially really slows the pace down and hinders our ability to counter. I think Williams solves this and in some capacity, an asset East looks to have (as back up).

Interesting. Well I suppose it all depends on his conditioning/warm-up & down etc that he stays injury free. Stubbs has managed it despite been labelled a crock by some people

Agreed, which likely means no Sharp.

Possibly Ageyi though as he can play both flanks as well as down the middle.

 

I very much doubt Sharp is on our radar or whether we would have a chance anyhow

 

In the past Parker would never print rumours but he now publishes whatever he reads on Twitter.

 

Very manageable, just depends on his legs. Last season he finished 11 of 35 starts with 2 more appearances from the bench. Season before that he took part in 40 of Swindons 46 games, started 24 and finished just the 7.

He's still a talent, doesn't have the pace he used to, much more now an on the ball player but no club signs him these days expecting him to play more than two thirds of the season. Far too many bad injuries have taken their toll.

My only concern with the signing. A talented player but doesn't seem to finish games. Does have that ability to move with the ball though something badly lacking last season in the centre of the park.

 

That would be the next thing I'd be looking out for with the summer recruitment if Williams happens. Getting more pace in and around the likes of Smallwood, Walker, Williams (?), Cook, Oliver etc is vital.

 

Apparently Sharpe is returning toSheff United in a coaching capacity, well that puts that to bed
