Summer 2023 Transfer Rumours

For our lack of decent strikers the last 25 years, we have certainly made up for that in the keeper department. We probably need another keeper to offer some competition and provide adequate back up.

 

If that is it, we are in serious trouble. We cannot rely on loans. Look what happened last season, only two were good, one left us in January and the other stayed, so we ended up with one that was viable.

 

Not a rumour, but Matty Longstaff's contract is up at Newcastle. He didn't have the best spell at Colchester before a knee injury forced him to be recalled, but he's the type of player i'd like to see in the centre alongside Smallwood. I wouldn't be surprised if his salary is astronomical however!

Obviously someone like Power would be good but it shows the level of wages Wrexham can pay. Haven't they promised that their budget will be at least double the 2nd biggest budget in l2?

 

Not so sure I would be spending some of our playing budget on Critchlow. Don't get me wrong, I rate the lad but maybe it's time to have a big no nonsense central defender in the middle, as a lot of other sides in this league do. Since he joined us Ciaran Kelly has spent most his time sat on his backside on the bench. The lad is a big unit and doesn't seem to lack pace for a centre half.

Good luck to them. Their owners bringing some razzmatazz to league 2 next season. Lets face it we'd all love to be in their position wouldn't we.

 

I stand corrected Park. However he has been given his chance and done okay on the whole. I was just thinking that maybe be worth giving a starting spot.

 

Agreed. The other side of the coin is that I am sure upper tier loaning clubs will prioritise sending their quality loanees to Clubs that can offer development in training and on a match day in a team made up mainly from experienced players.

Otherwise may as well just bung them in their own development squads and play in the reserve leagues and the PappyPizza thingy.

 

Do they do a marching band routine at half time or summat?

 

One thing is quite obvious, even if Gilli signs a new contract we are quite light on numbers, considering several members of the squad will probably be allowed to leave if they can get fixed up elsewhere.

 

Sat round a pool in Spain and the bloke next to me today is a Mansfield fan. He reckons they've offered Gilliead a deal.

Sounds like their fanbase is just like ours, expecting promotion with the budgets but can't see past Wrexham and Notts then it's best of the rest between about 7 or 8 sides.

 

The other problems with the loan market would be another Wright situation. Was it Newport the other year who were going well up to January then the spine of the team were recalled from their loans and the wheels fell off

 

So Mansfield think he’s a useful acquisition? My guess is he will sign for us. The Notts midlands is a trek!

 

It was. That's why loans should be used to compliment, rather thsn form the basis of a team.
