There shouldn't be any pressure on the lads to go out and perform with that sort of crowd backing them, as someone posted let em loose Sparkie we've seen enough tonight to have faith in their individual abilities right through the team.

 

He was great, after a while the players realised he wasn't falling for their histrionics, so they just got up and got on with the game

 

Right, great performance tonight. Stubbs excellent in nullifying Hawkins, Walker, Platt and Costello (whom run the lines non stop) very good but the highlight of the game, Cook spins on a 6 pence, shows the defender, drinks..... Goalllllllllll.... Right in front of it

I thought in the first half he seemed to turn their appeals down 5 or 6 times in a row, harshly so sometimes, especially with a free kick as one of their players burst into the area (never a penalty, but definitely a foul outside the area).

However, he sort of evened out in the end, and I think their anger with how the referee started the game intensified more because they were getting beaten than because his performance deteriorated.

That said, he definitely favoured us slightly.

 

I felt the same. The Colchester game worries me more, because they won't be as cocky as Gillingham and will almost certainly park the bus.

However, the unexpected managerial changed could be disruptive.

And we've a poor record against this team - especially at home. I remember the fixture seven years ago, where we took the lead dominated and then conceded two and looked as poor as we had all season. Which was quite hard, considering the 3-0 thumping at their place, nearly cost Parky his job!!

 

No he didn’t JB imho. Best ref all season, didn’t fall for the crap and let the game flow for both sides. The fact that we were a country mile better than they were was irrelevant. Nice to get one over the Millwall merchant banker!

 

Refreshing to watch, someone posted the Gillingham fans were raging about him, I suppose they have to lay the blame at someones door as with regards football they were rarely in the game, we knew they would try lumping it to 6'6" Hawkins but our two CD dealt with him and most aerial battles, cracking nights entertainment.

Just like when we've had a referee that's got stick on here there'll be an opposition forum saying he had a good game. Its why referees will never be given the credit they deserve. Some fans just judge referees on how many borderline decisions go their way. They just can't deal with the impartiality. The standard of refereeing will never be better than it is now.

 

Ha, it's funny, because I stated out loud that we'd somehow got an 'away day' ref in the first half!

It was noticeable to me, at least, and I've no reason to think one way or another watching it on the old tellybox.

 

Difficult to chose a MOTM tonight so many good performances through out the side ?.

 

Only downer. Gillingham is an absolute hole. In Chatham now but it's only a notch up on Gillingham

well done lads - excelkent tonight. I slated Costelloe on Sat but credit to him tonight, he worked very hard and I thought he got little sympathy from the ref and deserved to win at least two more free kicks on the edge of the box.

its no surprise results have picked up since Walker returned.

Cook, what can you say? Outstanding goal and had a few other decent efforts.

Halliday put some good balls in from the right.

Defensively we always looked in control. Would have taken a point before the game given their form, so buzzing tonight.

if we can win on Sat in front of that bumper crowd we’ll have real momentum and Carlisle in our sights for third spot.

 

I dare say it but Clayton was an inspired signing exactly for the dark arts

 

Agreed. Cooky looks so dangerous at the moment I think I’d go him, but many could say Costelloe with good reason tonight?
