Given that spoon's beers are on the turn when they get them it's probably a good one for them to have, crap when it's on and crap when it's going off

People keep posting that real ale goes off after a few days. I'm still drinking Ainstey's Cool Citra American Pale Ale (4.4%) from a box (actually bag in a box) a week on and it's getting better with time if anything. I expect it to last a month or more. It would probably sell wholesale to the club in bulk at around £1 per pint (retails to me £1.38) to be sold at £5 per pint. Is £4 gross profit per pint not enough? I don't see any problem once people get used to the logistics of being served from a small plastic tap on a 36 pint box. It might look odd but it works and tastes a lot nicer than fizzy dishwater.

This is it in a nutshell. If you are so desperate for a pint of real ale then go to the bars just down the road that specialise in this. It's their livelihood whereas Valley Parade is a venue used 20 odd games a season.

On my last couple of visits to Oxford United, they have had real ale, bag in a box, in the away end (side).

And it travels well, even all the way over to here -- so the hop over to VP wouldn't be a problem!

The Poles, I find, have a whole row of good lagers: there's usually not too long a period when I don't have a Tyskie or Zywiec or Lech or Lomza in the house. They're not craft beers, but for larger-scale commercial brews they are very good.

Given my location, I'm probably one of the last people whose opinion should be considered... Actually, given my drinking habits inside a ground, any ground -- bottle of water, maybe -- I *am* the last person! But for what it's worth, I think that local craft brewers and quality breweries of whatever scale should be preferred to multinational industrial brewers.

Real ale is fermented in the barrel and needs to settle before using which when opened will last a week before turning. Beer in a box has been filtered so is clear so can be used straight away and will last a lot longer. It is real ale with the real taken out

Yeah, I don't understand the issue either. It's not like they have a contract with a brewery to provide the beers or anything ...... Oh wait.

The contract will have been signed for the best benefit of the club. It's whats best for the revenue figures at the end of the day.

I'm still drinking my Ainstey's Cool Citra American IPA two weeks since opening and it's still nice. I moved the (bag in a) box and had to wait for it to settle again as it clouded up a bit. It must ferment a bit more in the bag after racking off. I drew a bit off into a glass and put a couple of teaspoons of sugar in and that started fermenting so it is clearly tastes and behaves the same as real ale because it is. They'd just have to make sure the 36 pint boxes were lined up to go on match days and did not need disturbing, although they would settle again in a day or two if mine is anything to go by.

I have just skimmed through this thread for the first time and not fully read all the replies, but what I did see in the opening post was Madri would be an available option at £5.40 a pint if the interest was sufficient from the kiosks, me and lad are in the suites of the main stand so we drink in there obviously and Madri has been on draft in there for a long while at £4.50 a pint, which seems a big price gap to the proposed kiosk price.

The brewery owner tells me what I bought in a box is just the same as in the barrels they send out to pubs. They actually fill the boxes from the same barrels, starting a new stock barrel as box demand dictates. I actually saw them do this once but did not know if the beer in the barrel was any different. He says not, which is presumably why I had to resettle mine after I left it warm in the kitchen and it started fermenting again. I've still not finished it. I've been drinking it for 3 weeks now and it's still nice. I was a beer in a box sceptic but the Ainsty ones have been good. He says his strong box sales have lifted overall business so far this year. They are good value. (The Bantams Best and Angel are slightly too bitter for me but I like the rest.)

Beer in a box is protected from the air so will keep. Beer in a pub barrel has to be tapped so allowing air to the beer reducing the time before it goes off

The big box is just over 35 pints for £50 and 17+ pints is £25. The small one is around 8.8 pints for £15. Not sure on delivery charges. York area delivery is £3 which I think is the brewery van doing the whole area in one day. Over £50 is advertised as free but that might be just York area. I'll ask him next time I see him what the charges are for stuff that goes further afield by courier.

Had a very nice bottle of 4.0% Yorkshire Heart Mild tonight, btw. Figured it would be good after previously enjoying their stout.
