Mark Hughes your football is...

Some fans can't understand the level of criticism directed at Mark Hughes, as we're on the fringe of a play off spot.

Given the financial support he's been given in assembling his squad, coupled with his experience at the highest level as a player and a manager, it would not have been unreasonable to expect that we should already be well established in the top three. The majority of fans don't follow the team away and can only go on what they've seen at Valley Parade - "dull as dishwater" performances, poor results, questionable team selection, tactical naivety and a manager outwitted by the likes of Pete Wild and Dave Challinor. The slow motion, sideways and back style, akin to an over sixties walking football side has destroyed the match day experience at Valley Parade, where the masses are repeatedly outshouted by a vast minority of away fans.

I struggle to name one player who has improved under the management of Hughes, but can name several who've regressed. We seem to be pinning our promotion hopes on a batch of veterans, crocs and untried youngsters signed in the January window. No surprise that three were already unavailable due to injury last Saturday, while a fourth was left flat on his backside while gifting Barrow their winning goal.

I rest my case..............

 

Cook. He's never scored 20 league goals in one EFL season before (which he will) and has only ever done it at National League Level. Gilliead, pants as he may be, he's better than he has been in any previous season with us. Lewis, gone from a reserve keeper to a first team keeper.

 

Cook may have scored more goals this season but, performance wise, I don't think he's improved. Hughes even dropped him. Gilliead hasn't improved and I wouldn't pick him. He just happens to be a favourite of Hughes. Lewis's performances have been good from the time he arrived and he's maintained that form. He was a reserve team 'keeper with a Premiership club and his ability reflects that background. Hughes has no part in his development anyway. That's Colin Doyle's job.

 

I agree on Lewis from game one he showed he’s a class above this level. But you can’t say that then dismiss Cook, under Hughes Cook, Vernam and Wright have all had their best goal scoring ratios of their careers. Two of them have moved onto a higher level as a result, just for some balance of course.

 

Lewis is a class above.

Cook’s football is shite.

That’s the balance.

 

Hughes must be really good then to turn him into a 20+ striker.

 

you get a striker that can get 20+ goals in a team then you should be part way of winning a battle sadly we have a man who seems to bypass actually trying to feed him ............ the same happened with Doyle deemed as crap deemed as lazy and yet magically he fooks elsewhere and he’s suddenly a world beater ............ said it time and time again you put a manager at the helm who knows what he’s doing then this squad would be in the top 3 ......... we on the whole have been crap this season and yet we are 8th now stands to reason that if the set up was right we would be higher up ?????
How many goals have we actually lost down to peeing around with it in dodgy areas ????? Saturday was the latest in a long line of it ............. and I ain’t gonna blame who loses it in them areas I’m gonna blame the daft sod who continues to let them players take the blame for his crap set up

 

Cook is the L2 version of Mo Salah. Does nothing but score and when he's not scoring he's shite. In your eyes at least.

Let’s see if anyone in Div 1 or the championship want him. Didn’t see loads of offers for him in Jan.

Why would any championship club want a 32 year old striker, leaning towards plump, with only five years experience in the EFL ? He's a league two player, no-one will argue with you on that, but the fact remains he will score 20 to 25 league goals this season and be the first to do that for us since Deano.
