Better than nothing if we get injuries to Platt and Critchlow, Have said all along we are a good experienced centre back short. on appearance Staunton would be better than relying on Odusina

You're right, no one played well. I've seen enough of Sutton as a DM for example though, to know he can't do that job in a side that wants to play possession football. And Songo'o role should be limited to being a back DM for Smallwood. Odusina deserves more opportunities but looks very erratic based on early showings. A long term injury to Platt or Smallwood would be a huge issue for us.

I'm beginning to think we don't have the best bench/squad depth in the clubs history and may not be the League 2 all-stars after all.

We have good solid cover, doesn't mean if you put them together as an 11 they will be a great team.

A new first team quality CB is a huge must for January especially with Critchlow being at risk to being recalled in January. Any news on Walker? His return will be huge as it should help out the midfield providing them with a better link to attack and will also free up Chapman to move out wide with Wright on the opposite side. Also what's happened to Ridehaigh? Any news on him?

I really couldn't see any point in playing Hendrie at LB last night. He had one good game in that position back in Stuarts time against Wigan away, but at our level right footed players are always going to struggle at LB. I did wonder if MH was trying him there and if he did ok, maybe letting Ridehalgh go in January, leaving Hendrie as cover for either full back. On last nights showing we need to keep Ridehalgh

Thing is, when one or two are brought in/ on to the rest of the full first team they play better. Making 9 changes impacts on that significantly and you have 9 second string. I don't think last nights result casts any real doubts on the squad value, especially with Hendrie at LB. We are never (hopefully) going to be in a position where 9 of these have to play together.

On another front, league position wise, we should have finished third in the group but finished second. That's a positive and it's Sheff Wednesday who should be looking at their ham & pineapple results not us.

We are through, job done, and the main event returns on Saturday.

He’s not our player though Trevor, he’s sold, gone. We couldn’t bring him back until January window then we’d have to buy him back , not that we’d want to as there’s much better out there than Staunton.

As we finished 2nd in the group, we will be away at one of the the Northern section group winners (but not Burton Albion) in the 2nd round. That means we will be away to one of the following:
    • Everton under 21s
    • Bolton Wanderers
    • Port Vale
    • Salford City
    • Lincoln City
    • Manchester City under 21s or Grimsby Town (as only one of those can win group F)
    • Manchester United under 21s

You make a fair point but put Odusina in there, with his lack of game time, playing alongside Songo'o (who isn't a central defender) and Sutton (who isn't a great centre midfielder) and alongside Hendrie, who has hardly played, and it's easy to see why he wouldn't perform well.

In fact, we've been here before many times over the last 4 or 5 seasons - change so many players for one match and select a team that has hardly played many first team minutes never mind together as a team and clearly they will under perform

I wonder if the "invited clubs" can play at home in the round of 32 and further on? Unhelpfully, there isn't anything mentioned in the rules although it is clear for the groups stages - Rules - EFL

Either way, I think we should hope to swerve Bolton and Lincoln. Can't see us beating them.

There is a reason he went to BPA , staggered some always look at players who weren't good enough when here before as some kind of solution!

I'm sure last year anyone drawn "away" to an u21 team played the match at home.

Edit - just had a quick Google and Chelsea, Villa and Arsenal were the only teams through and all played away so unless it's just coincidence and all we're drawn away we could well be at home to one of those sides in the next round.

BPA may not be covered by EFL transfer regulations, but we are. An incoming loan (emergency goalkeepers apart) can only happen in the designated windows.

Yep. Lots of players playing in far from ideal circumstances in that sense.

I don't have a problem with getting beat, what I can't accept was IMO the lack of fight that team put up last night.
It was their chance to show Hughes & Co what they could do on the night, yet they looked void of idea's, 2 of Burtons goals were quality but you have to question the closing down, another down to our own poor possesion of the ball and losing it on the edge of our own box (Sunday morning stuff), yes they had several first teamers in but no excuses for allowing them to play and not being at them every chance we got.
