Not the same thing granted but both he and Riley have captained at under 23 level.

TBF, how many times do fans rate a defensive midfielder’s performances as “incredible”? It’s true his form from December nose-dived and people will remember that, but he’s no way near as bad a player as some are making out

 

May have a situation where Vince is club captain as senior player but some9ne else is team captain if his place is uncertain

 

My opinion -- the on-field captain should be chosen by the players themselves, and not be appointed by coaching or any other staff. This is, I think, the best way to get a captain whom the rest of the side will respect and to whom they will respond. I'd also like to see this as an established, experienced player, and not a raw newcomer.

Of course, this is my ideal situation, and there will always be exceptions -- for example us, and now, with so many players being new or relatively new to the side.

I agree. Vince's best period for us, by a long chalk, was the first half of two seasons back, when he played at centre back. He was terrific in that role and I still think SM made a big error in moving him out of it. His ability to play the ball out from the back was key to our great start that year; it was like having an extra midfielder.

His form in the first half of last season was very patchy. But his exceptional leap led to him getting several important goals, which masked his otherwise unimpressive form. To me he looked like his legs have gone well before his form, and that of the whole team, took a further nosedive in January.

He could still have an important role as a squad player, if he is prepared to remain with us on that basis. He could do a job on the bench as CB cover or to bring on for extra defensive midfield protection late in a game when we are protecting a lead. But I can't see him being a starter in the current squad.

 

Only 1 man for captain for me. Only played a handful of games last season but led by example - Ryan McGowan.

 

I wouldn't moan or groan if it was O'Donnell, either.

 

Based on last night, O’Donnell for me, he was very vocal and tried to get them organised

 

I like Vince, but I'm worried that his legs have gone. Lets hope he recovers his form even if it's only to get a bit part defending a 3/0 lead every week !!
