Personally paudie watt and vernam have all taken a backwards step in leaving city. Lincoln may be in league 1 but we'll probably swap places end of season lol. All replaceable finished bottom half league 2 with there efforts

Below the belt comment regarding the manager improving him, it's simply a

Lincoln have been better than us for ages mate.

They walloped us last time we played them, we're nowhere near them

Strange move really. Obviously just for the money. You can already hear the chant when we play Salford.

Equally though, that's our reading of something. He's not said that for City fans, he's said that in a press release for Salford.

And frankly if he's had a chat with a coach who's recently worked with players like Amad Diallo, Anthony Elanga and (in a footballing sense...) Mason Greenwood then why shouldn't he be enthused by that? He's probably had plenty of conversations with their manager or their sporting director about the role they see for him there.

He's 22, when Hughes managed at the top level he wasn't even in secondary school.

No harm in him saying he wants to work with a manager (or head coach) of a team he's just signed with!

I think we're all misreading that comment and I don't think it's a dig at MH. Yeah. It's a money move no doubt in that but besides the fact most things players say when they join a new club is the same clichéd BS, isn't he just saying he wanted a change of scenery but also to play under a coach that will improve him. So he wasn't just gonna go for the sake of a change of scenery he was only gonna go somewhere that had such a coach (and afforded him that change of scenery he reckons he craved). Not a slight on MH I don't think.

Have a word there coach is knowhere near Hughes level ........... for every player you have named there are probably hundreds of better players that Hughes has worked with .......... he can put all the spin he wants on it it’s down to plain old money nothing more or less ......... had City matched or bettered Salford’s deal he wouldn’t have given them a second thought

Good point, he wasnt even born when Hughes packed in playing, or wasnt old enough to know. He will relate more to a young up and coming coach than Hughes. That said, its still a move that screams either last chance to get away or complete lack of ambition.

Either way, it's clear he hasn't impressed any of the numerous league one clubs someone says were looking at him.

I’m a little surprised by this move. I think Elliot is a decent, tidy footballer and it wouldn’t have surprised me to see him sign for a League 1 club.
A move to Salford seems sideways at best - we were both mid-table League 2 sides last year and I would suggest our recruitment up to now has been stronger than Salford’s. Time will of course tell, however I feel like we have brought in a better CM in Smallwood so I’m content with Watt leaving it it frees up funds for replacements in other areas.

he is clearly a better player than vernam and paudie yet they moved up a division. has to be money or a crap agent.

The more I think about it Rog the crasser it’s becomes. Hughes clearly had faith in him, otherwise he wouldn’t have offered him a new deal. To refuse the deal based on monetary gain elsewhere I don’t have a problem with whatsoever, however for footballing reasons it comes across as bonkers. Even more stupid are the comments, they are not even a disguised attempt to suggest Hughes is somehow a poor developer of footballers.
It leaves a sour taste……Good luck to the lad but was those comments necessary ? Were they bollocks!

Don't know if I am the only one who is a bit disappointed we have not been able to persuade even 1 of our 3 better players to be part of the new Hughes regime and future.
So much has been positive since Mark came in but when someone posted possible exciting news today this for me is not it, I find it a bit of a shame. I know a lot are not over bothered as they were part of our dreadful past 2 seasons and I can understand this

Left field time. Maybe Hughes had something/ someone else in mind but to ensure we got something, the offer made to Watt was about a quid more than he had been on. That means we had met the increased offer requirement in order to be due compensation, yet expected Watt to go.

Strange move, assume they've bunged him a wedge.

    Smallwood is an upgrade anyway

Smallwood is twice the player, much much more than an upgrade. I do wonder if Watt knew he would take a backseat to him? Personally he could have developed playing alongside him, unless of course that’s not MH’s plan at all, considering instead the lads he’s brought in?
