Really happy with this. I don’t think he’ll play much but he’s s great clubman, you could tell he and his family loved this club - remember him getting awkward flights back to play after Ireland - and I think this is a big signing for the dressing room.

we’ve a lot of 20-24 year olds. Col will be a father figure to the younger ones and set a big example. He ‘gets’ this club.

one of the most important signings we’ll make this summer, this, for ‘team building’ reasons.

It would be, but I also think your earlier suggestion of a season long loan with a recall clause would be good as it would give us that added bit of security if needed.

 

I don't know why but I'm of the understanding that all season long longs must have a January recall clause in them anyway. Happily corrected if that's wrong (and it probably is...) though!

Yes a great move either way tbh. On loan they will pay most of his wages, or if moving permanently, it’s one off the books.

 

This is definitely more emphasis on coach than player I believe, only played 1 game last season. Can see Hornby starting pre season with us, he’ll know if Lewis is the better keeper than him pretty quickly. If he fancies his chances of battling for number 1 or not. I do believe we need better than hornby though, and hoping Lewis is that man

 

He will already know Lewis will be No1 .

Probably cheaper than the cost of a backup plus a coach, he knows the club, and his experience will be a benefit (and safety net) for the young lad weve signed from Southampton

 

No one concerned that the new number one has played 30 league games in his whole career.

Correct. Those knocking it as it seems to be a 'value' as opposed to the expensive signings they crave (because as we all know from Salford's experience that guarantees success ) are missing the point.

He was one of the great characters during our last successful period and clearly never wanted to leave. So we've got a character in the dressing room who not only can talk about playing for us and how to get success, but has actually done just that.

Hope so. He's simply not good enough, for a team that's aiming for promotion. Indecisive at times, leading to hesitation and lower confidence in defence.

 

I'd re-read this thread - some are "knocking it". Unless you think the sarcastic remarks about what Ryan Sparks said about the budget, is a thumbs up?

 

I haven't read anyone knocking it. It all seems to be very positive.
