FFS!! I’ve just stopped waking up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat and screaming thinking about Richard F’in Liburd on the overlap. Looks like i’m going to have the dig out the number of my therapist again.

There’s inflation and there’s football inflation.
John Barnes was supposedly on £10k a week 30 or so years ago, £25k in today’s money. Most PL wingers of his quality wouldn’t get out of bed for £250k a week. Also Shearer for £3.6m to Blackburn in 1992, £8m today and then £15m (£30m today) to Newcastle in 1996. You’d be paying £150m or more for him in today’s market.
Shows how far behind City have fallen, the £40k a week Carbone got was more than Beckham at the time, 20 years later there’s probably kids who have rarely made the first team who aren’t far off that.

    Liburd was under Uncle Geoffrey.
McCarthy and Torpey were under Dave Simpson??
He put his money in. I remember when we were bidding for Jon McCarthy at York and Craig Maskell at Swindon
    Then, Smaller crowds, less income.
    So whats happening now??

    Selling Ormondroyd for nearly 900k.
Comes in at £2.25 million on the calculator.
Double that in the football market .
Sticks was worth 2 Nakhi Wells :OO::joy:

I'd take a new right back over a new striker as bizarre as it sounds.

    It vaguely rings a bell.

They certainly had a little period where they were an okay League One side - but we seem to be joined at the hip some years. Fortunately, it looks like this will be their last season in the EFL, whereas we're not as bad as all that this season.

We'd do well, though, look at some of these stinkers:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aaron_Jarvis_(footballer) - How is this an EFL player?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jai_Rowe - What on Earth is 'Barwell'?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devarn_Green - How is this a first XI player?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenan_D%C3%BCnnwald-Turan - Who signed this guy, Edin Rahic?

Stupid thing is, I can STILL see us signing players like Harry Bunn in the future because he's cheap and local.

I just look at their team and it's awful. Sign non-league players, play non-league football.

Yeah but the flip side of that is they paid £500k for Luke James who then came to us for free and was terrible

It’s about a good scouting system and finding the right ones. It’s not only non league players that flop. Barry fry’s non league knowledge helped Peterborough a lot especially in the early days of his employment

Been years since we've had a proper right back.

Just imagine the stupidity of typing that sentence!!

There's a difference between having one or two very good non league players in your squad, and relying on a host of 'promising' players to keep you up.

You need a balance that they don't have.

Tom Elliot linked again on a not very reliable twitter page but it’s a rumour! Can see him leaving after Matt smith signed

    A) Considering we are the divisions most wasteful in front of goal
    B) Considering if Cook gets injured we only have Robinson and Lavery.

    Worse than bizarre. Lunacy.
