If we stay at this level much longer we’ll find the sustainable budget continues to shrink. It’s an unrealistic vision in football otherwise every club would do it, what business man wants to lose money?

 

A new season of Silicon Valley Parade has been announced. Erlich Bachman's latest crazy idea is to get Guilfoyle to make money from selling things that don't exist in the real world, before the tulip bubble bursts ('NFT's) and then buy a soccer club. Once done, model the soccer club on the hit TV show Ted Lasso and you have today's news.

 

Indeed, except that Rahic actually had some good ideas. The devil was in the implementation, though...

Some have mentioned Brentford -- but as @Dennis has said, the owner is also a supporter. That appears to be the type of owner we need. You have the wealth, the local connexions, and the knowledge/ability to modernise and improve. It will be interesting to see if he can sustain it; so far so good, but we won't know for years, if not decades.

The problem with owners who have no connexion to the city, or even country, in which they are making an acquisition is that the acquisition -- sports club, factory, shop... -- is just another unit in the organisational chart. It can go well, but it can mean that actions are taken without any regard for the community, or the history, simply because they "make sense" to the organisation as a whole.

Consider also, for example, how sports franchises over here get packed up and moved from one city to another. It's happened in all the major sports (NHL, MLB, NFL, NBA); it's just part of the sporting culture, whether the owner is a rich individual or a major business. The fans are as committed and passionate as any football supporter, but it often seems as if they don't count in the bigger picture -- unless there is something to sell to them.

It sounds risky to me……but am I happy for us to gamble the clubs future……yes. I am an inherent risk taker and like GR, these guys would have ambition. None of this stagnating and happy being self sufficient.

whats the worse that happens? The club goes bust, re forms and we do an FC United of Manchester? We’re in League 2 anyway…..id take a risk myself but I understand why many others will be cautious.

 

They're sending their attorney over to sort out the legal details at the weekend.

 

Still think this may be a wind up though. You dont want details of the deal or their interest being common knowledge until its signed?

Good post, but let's be real - SOME owners with no connection to the city or country will treat clubs exactly as you say - but not all.

Darragh MacAnthony isn't from England and has no history with Peterborough - he bought them on the back of a documentary and how it made him feel - but he's had Peterborough at his heart the entire time.

I agree though, that unless Bradford City fans are front and centre in any new hierarchy there will be decision made against the best interests of the club. That shouldn't happen, and simple lip service surrounding vague buzzwords isn't very reassuring.

 

Looks like it's potentially Stevenage and not us anyways so that's good.
