Ive done some homework on the figures for goal scorers currently playing in Div 2 and having good seasons.
Here is my list for consideration. All are well under 30 and have good goals/mins played and shot conversion rates.

    Dom Telford Newport
    Matt Jay exeter
    Luke Armstrong Harrogate
    Matt Stevens Forest Green
    Harry Smith Orient
    Aaron Drinan Orient

I have also done some work on creators again in Div 2 and good age and stats.
Callum Cooke is far and away the best player by stats alone.
He has created a total of 48 chances so far and 3.43 chances per game.
The only players anywhere near are the following who all have similar figures which do not compare with Cooke's outstanding figures.

    Jevani Brown Exeter
    Nicky Cadden F.G.R.
    George Thomson Harrogate.

    Food for thought

The problem is I cannot see Rupp providing funds to bid for contracted in form strikers. So you can probably rule out any on your list, particularly Matt Jay.

We will end up with a loan striker or someone's unwanted players.

They will end up as old with a poor goal scoring and injury record but available and cheap :)

The last time we signed a wanted player for money was Charlie Wyke and that was only because we received a fee for James Hanson. Our summer transfer policy suggests we have no intention of signing any of the above mentioned players, merely as Idle mentions we will end up with a loan or a player others are happy to let go, as happened with Lavery, Robinson and Cook.

This is la la land. All bar one of your suggestions are currently in the autos or play-off positions. Why would they want to move elsewhere?

Perhaps of more relevance is why would their clubs want to sell them at this stage?

And more importantly from our perspective, where is the money coming from to buy them? Has Sparks found a wedge down the back of the club sofa?

@Dennis@Dennis - do I detect an air of disenchantment?

Just a hint TB, just a hint .. and I guess I'm not alone.

My real concern however is with the OP's suggestion that we will suddenly be in the market to recruit some expensive, 'quality' players in the January transfer market when there's no sign of the owner digging into his own pockets to finance such things. Maybe Sparks has somehow amassed a slush fund for these signings but I seriously doubt it. We have to be realistic with our expectations hence my la la land comment.

But setting that aside, it's the contrast with what was promised before the start of the season that not being promoted would be a failure which really galls me. Of course, we all know that was said just as season tickets were going on sale and I'm not naive enough to be (completely!) taken in by pre-season hype. But the season isn't developing as we'd all have hoped. Expecting some miraculous improvement in our performances and our results because of our future dealings in the January window is for the birds imo.

We did spend money on transfer fees last January. Rowe, Crankshaw and Vernam were all bought for the dreaded undisclosed fee. We then sold Rowe and Crankshaw for undisclosed fees. Don’t think many league two clubs will be splashing the cash this January.

There is possibly an answer to my next question somewhere but I wonder how our “walk up” figures (including visiting team fans) compare to the number used in setting a budget.

I’m assuming a PR bid as we’ve done in the past-“we made what we thought was a reasonable offer (£10) but unfortunately his club turned us down”
Followed by the return of Kurtis Guthrie

Rupp will only authorize spending money generated within the club, He will not put any more of his money in to the club IMO

reaching the third round of the fa cup and gaining a favorable draw could make a bid difference to the january shopping list.
Our match day walk up is more than some teams actual attendances, with at least 3000 per game over the season ticket sales and the match day hospitality is generally sold out.
i do not think the club are as skint as some make out and if i had money to spend, i would not be telling any agent or prospective player that. They hold too many cards as it is.

Striker to partner cook has to be the main priority like people have said above am sure all are out of our price range, we need to look further down the pyramid for me billy waters for Halifax for example, we also need another centre back if adams isn’t gunna play Staunton & kelleher isn’t good enough

I need a new duvet. I'm sure they'll be in the sales somewhere in January.

I'd like to know if any of the new scouts have found any potential new players that weren't on the table in the summer.

Apart from the obvious in a striker to compliment Cook, we don't have a left winger with a left foot.
I'd like us to try and make a loan move for Lewis Bate at Leeds, who is left footed and very fast.

Get this question set up for the forum. “Will we have money to spend in January, or will we have to sell first in order to buy, or take a player on loan?” Coupled with “what happened to our promotion building budget? How has it been mismanaged?”

I like your list Cadden from FGR is good, as is his team mate Jake Young.

That is the only question that needs a proper answer, Fordy is right when he says forums are a waste of time because they are. Unless you are ignorant or just thick as mince you don't need a forum to tell you what is going on at the club, especially when you have a CEO who pretty much talks on social media every day.

We still haven’t got a number 10 so we either missed out or couldn’t afford our target. There must be money still there for that position. We need a solid experienced midfielder who makes us tick and a finisher in my opinion.
