New Coach - Michael Collins

I asked previously if the squad was any good, you just chose to skip that and try put me in my place by telling me about Mr Collins and how dreadful the results were last season.

I don't have a problem, I'm a sarcastic person.

 

Well that was a specialist question you were asking. I am not aware of anybody on here who goes and watches the under 18s regularly who would have given you a good summary.

Just like all football coaching/managerial appointments this one will either go well or not.

I like what I have heard so far but probably expected to hear the positivity. The lad certainly doesn't lack confidence and will definitely bring a fresh young approach.

Having fallen from the happy clapper but not down to the anti ER/SR brigade I will take stock of this appointment after 5 games. Barring bad injuries we should have our settled first 11 by then and see they style of play etc.

Until then I can't get too excited or down as I have no reason to right now.

They have a pittance compared to other premier teams Huddersfield as well got their and stayed there with an inferior budget. They are punching above their weight. Leicester won the title with a fraction of the budget of the top teams

@CT Bantam here is another three very poorly supported Accrington done well in league two and are now in league one on a very meagre budget. Rochdale and Wimbledon both punch above their weight. I have never argued that money doesn’t counts but good things can be achieved with good management

 

I tend to agree with you and I would add that the quality of further signings will also reflect on Collins as the players that sign from now on will be those that were encouraged/persuaded by him and want to play for him.

 

I'm sure he wants to make a success of the club and he could be a misunderstood football genius. It is highly concerning that you have Mason leaving who is a massive city fan and someone like Jamie Lawrence being so vocal about his feelings they are both more than a poster on here who knows someone at the club whose heard a tit bit then passed it over. It does make me think Edin just will not accept anyone else's opinion or advice and the smart money says it will end in tears.

We're nothing close to Man utd, Collins isn't Ferguson and Edin doesn't have the cash to get us close tho them.

 

We play in the EFL so please provide examples from our own environment. If Accrington stay up for 2 or 3 seasons then you will have your exception to prove the rule but they haven't played a league 1 game yet.

 

Just watched the Abbott vid and from what he said, it made me wonder if the delay over the past few weeks has been because Edin was waiting to see if Abbott would be well enough to take on the role of assistant to Collins? Maybe he saw something in Collins a while ago but because of his age and inexperience, he knew he would need someone to support him and it had to be someone he trusted, i.e. Abbott. His illness put a few spanners in the works and Edin had to have a 'plan b'. Perhaps the interviewing over the past few weeks has been that 'plan b' in case Abbott wasn't fit enough to take on the role but once it became clear that he was, the job was Collins all the way.
This might be wide of the mark but if not, at least it would mean it wasn't a panic appointment because nobody else wanted it, and I'd feel a lot better about that so I'm going to believe it is true

 

Yes they can, but not in the long term. In the end a lack of comparative resources will catch up with you

 

Did you watchthe Drury vid? From 1.50 ish, seems to suggest Edin will be involved in coaching. Just me? One for the haters.

 

True but the majority of teams in lower leagues don’t have a lot of money

 

No I hadn't watched it until just now and you are right, there does appear to be that suggestion in there. I'm not sure it will mean he is out on the training ground leading the sessions but I'm guessing Edin being Edin, he will be involved in some way.
