I cringe horribly when I see people in those claret ‘56’ hoodies in the pubs before a home game.

I don’t doubt that the sentiment is correct but my god they need to be discarded ASAP.

In 2014 my kids bought me a City shirt with the option of a number on the back. I ummed & aahed about whether to have 56 (the year of my birth) or 58 (my age at the time). The connotations of 56 never even crossed my mind, because I simply don't think of the fire in those terms. Only in hindsight did I realise the connection.
I'm so glad that I went for 58, otherwise that would have been a shirt I never wore. I couldn't be seen in public with a bloody great 56 on my back.

Ive seen comments that say it helps us remember them. How exactly does a t shirt with 56 on the back do that? Don't they realise the people who do remember every year don't need an item of clothing to bring back memories of that fateful day. And if you really want to raise awareness of disaster for some obscure reason do it with something more tactful like a sponsored event because this 56 branding is distasteful however wel meaning it may be.

Disaster fashion ... Jesus ... I know it seems crass to say I was there but I'd rather try and remember the tragedy in my own way (never a day goes by ...). It's bollocks to think you can wear something that elevates you to someone 'who cares' and is 'deeply moved' to hope people look at you and think - oooh , he/she is a proper City fan i.e better than you. Someone who was there WOULDN'T TOUCH THIS SHIT WITH A BARGE POLE.

whenever i see anyone in these hoodies my first thought is what an attention seeking prick, i, like many others on here were at the game and for years the fans and club remembered the supporters who lost there lives with quiet reflection, never ever dreaming we would see a huge number 56 on the back of tee shirts and hoodies, what next a 56 beech towel so you can take your tacky tribute on holiday with you so you can show all of europe that you care more than anybody else.

As a Bradford City fan whom wasn't there on that horrendous day, I always try to avoid conversation on the area, as I feel, unsure on how to approach the conversation as my understanding is second hand.

On this subject of hoodies and the like, I'm in full agreement that such 'items' should be not be about. Distasteful and irrelevant.

I am disgusted by this it seems now to become a "badge of honour" to wear. Stop now no more flags, hoodies or T-shirts. Just respect and sorrow.

I’m sure this has been asked before but

Is it an age thing? Is it more the younger end, or those that want to look young, that think this is a good idea.

I was going to go with just young but saw that Lenny, ex City Gent, was involved

We have always prided ourselves on the fact that we did our grieving quietly, in private and without any ostentation. The crass merchandise that has been promoted in recent times is the antithesis of this and I personally find it deplorable.

I've seen some people saying that they will be forgotten and this raises the profile.

They must be completely unaware that there are memorials to the fire at Valley Parade and in the City Centre, that there is a ribbon round the collar of the City shirt, that there is always an event on the 11th May at the memorial in the City Centre and that the last home game of the season is always a minutes silence and a period of reflection.

I still don't forgive the morons who invaded the pitch on the last day against Northampton in 2010, the last home game of the season to hurl abuse at the Northampton fans who were nothing but respectful on the 25th anniversary of the fire. It wouldn't suprise me if some of those are going round wearing these hoodies.

The question I find myself asking is why, firstly Bobby Campbell agreed to promote the hoodies and now Peter Jackson has been pictured promoting them.

It seems to me like a massive error of judgment given the feelings of fans on the forum as I don't think I've ever seen a poll where someone hasn't even jokingly voted for the least popular option.

I am also uncomfortable with such 'merchandise' and, as others have said, it seems to be the way of the world nowadays and maybe it is, largely, a generational thing.

That said, I have no problem with small personal symbols, such as the poppy and, in the case of the fire, the ribbons that are on the shirts and the small ribbons have been produced to wear in the past. It should also be remebered that, rightly or wrongly, the Club itself used the term '56 always with us' on some of the official Wembley 2013 merchandise, although I believe it was all relatively small and not 'in your face'.

I believe it is well intentioned amongst those doing it; if we could only channel the fundraising aspect into something more appropriate. So, personally, I won't get offended by those going down this route, but I do wish they would go about it differently.

I've noticed that banners around the stadium seem to have recently (I think) disappeared, there was the big one behind the goal on the kop and one just to the right of the dressing rooms...
I'm sure they were there until recently...?
I am slightly for some recognition inside the stadium but the merchandise is somewhat a bit freaky, the whole subject I suppose could be open for debate though...

I think the difference between hoodie and so on compared with the black on the shirts a the ribbons is that comes across as wallowing in it as some sort of badge of honour instead of a small personal memorial.
In essence showing off, about something that causes immense upset and grief to those who were there. It is crass and insensitive.
It is good that it is in a charitable cause, which is why I guess Peter Jackson has agreed to participate, but I note the club itself is not, which I think a good decision.

I was there on the day and followed City throughout the rest of the 80's and 90's. And throughout that time we were respectful to those who died and injured. There was a minutes silence on the last home game each season, the service at the Cathedral and the memorials in town and at the ground.
This 56 thing seems to have sprung up since the turn of the century. And whilst I'm not bothered about some DIY flags etc I think turning it into 'merch' is a little distasteful
But it might be an age thing. Those who wear this kind of stuff are usually of an age where they weren't around in the years after the fire and the scar it left not just on BCFC but the wider city itself.

I’ve heard mention of our disaster being the forgotten disaster that doesn’t seem to get a mention. Fine by me, that’s how it’s always been. Dignified and respectful with personal remembrance. This 56 branding screams “ask me why I’m wearing it and I’ll tell you all about it” like they’ve a story to tell. Well it wasn’t a story it was a nightmare.

I remember about 10 years ago or so there was this idea put forward about printing t-shirts with '56' and the victims names on them. Was quickly shot down and never went forward thankfully. Anyone else recall that? The club wasn't involved afaik.
